Look What You’re Missing Out on Tom!

Wow.

Katie Holmes is fighting back at the critics who dared to suggest she lost sex appeal during her six-year relationship with Hollywood star Tom Cruise, displaying some, well, ample cleavage during a photo shoot with photographers Markus and Indrani, for their ICONS book.

The shutterbugs, who will be launching their book in Los Angeles, Calif. Thursday evening, shot one of the most fascinating faces in Hollywood.

It’s one of the more risqué looks for Holmes, 34.

Previously, the mom-of-one debuted as the first-ever celebrity face of Bobbi Brown cosmetics and served as a spokesperson for jeweler H. Stern, along with the fashion lines Miu Miu and Ann Taylor.

Homes split from Cruise, 50, in June last year when she secretly filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable difference.”

They reached a settlement soon after.

2012 Year in Review: The 20 Biggest Weddings, Breakups and Makeups

Just like the rest of the world, love makes the Hollywood go round.

This year had no shortage of romance among the stars. From Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel saying “I do” under the stars in Southern Italy, to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively secretly getting hitched on a sprawling Southern plantation, many buzzed-about celebrity couples found their happily-ever-after in 2012.

Even some of the industry’s most beloved golden girls turned bridal. Natalie Portman tied the knot with her Benjamin Millepied in a traditional Jewish ceremony in Big Sur, Calif., where Anne Hathaway also walked down the aisle at sunset to wed Adam Shulman.

Drew Barrymore vowed for forever with Will Kopleman at her Montecito, Calif. estate, while Carey Mulligan took the plunge with Mumford & Sons musician Marcus Mumford in the countryside of Somerset, England.

But wedded bliss didn’t bless everyone, with many longtime lovers calling it quits in 2012. After almost seven years of marriage, Heidi Klum and Seal announced their separation in January before officially filing for divorce three months later.

Parting ways after five wedded years, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes — long labeled Tomkat — reached a surprisingly speedy divorce settlement after just 11 days in July, with the actress receiving primary custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Suri.

But not all of Hollywood’s bitter breakups stuck. Back in July, Kristen Stewart was infamously snapped smooching her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, seemingly ruining her three-year relationship with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. But Twihard broken hearts were soon on the mend, as Stewart and Pattinson were spotted canoodling in Los Angeles, Calif., in October.

Now, as the countdown begins to 2013, look back at this year’s biggest weddings, breakups and makeups.

Which wedding took the cake? What split was most shocking? And which makeups were meant to be? Share your thoughts in comments below.

Damon Lindelof No Longer ‘Prometheus 2′ Bound; ‘Warm Bodies’ Team Set to Tackle ‘Revoc’

With the holidays fast approaching, agents, managers, producers and performers alike are scraping together their final percentages, leaping aboard private planes and speeding away into 2013 in their souped-up Lambos. Which is all to say, they’re fleeing Hollywood like the place was on fire and leaving you without a fair bit of MovieBuzz.

The bastards.

That said, a few final deals closed this week with Summit Entertainment picking up the action pitch Revoc. The producing team behind the upcoming zombie comedy Warm Bodies will handle the post-alien invasion sci-fi tale described as being in the vein of District 9 or Moon. The pitch was offered up by Icelandic filmmaker Olaf de Fleur whose crime film City State is currently scheduled for a remake by 3:10 to Yuma and Wolverine director James Mangold. [Hollywood Reporter]

Next up, the first novel in Jennifer Nielsen’s Ascendance trilogy, The False Prince, has been picked up by Paramount. Game of Thrones’ story editor Bryan Cogman will adapt the story for the big-screen. The story of a boy chosen to pose as murdered royalty’s long-lost son, The False Prince weaves a tale of young-adult, high-fantasy espionage, perfect for a writer already spinning that same tale on HBO. [Hollywood Reporter]

Lastly, word comes down from our friends at Collider that Lost co-creater Damon Lindelof will not be scriping the sequel to Prometheus. Whether this is because the beautifully filmed and terribly plotted film received the brunt of its criticism for Lindelof’s script, or – as Lindelof claims – it’s simply not in his schedule is up for some debate. But Lindelof tells Collider:

“I’m usually very single-minded creatively. I can only be working on one thing at a time. So I said to [director Ridley Scott], ‘I really don’t think I could start working on this movie until I do this other stuff. And I don’t know when the other stuff is going to be done.’ And he was like, ‘Well, okay, it’s not like I asked you anyways.’” [Collider]

Sick Promethean burn, Ridley….

Watch the trailer for Warm Bodies, which is due out in early 2013. Which of these stories piques your interest the most, and why? Let us know in the comments section below!

‘Jack Reacher’ Co-Star Rosamund Pike Says She and Tom Cruise Shared ‘Easy Chemistry’

“Tom and I had a very easy chemistry,” says British actress Rosamund Pike. The Tom in question is Mr. Cruise, with whom she stars in Jack Reacher, a taut thriller where she plays a defense attorney who spars with Cruise’s title character.

The pair do ignite plenty of sparks, but there is no actual love scene between them. “We manage to get the satisfaction of a love affair without ever touching,” she said. (American audiences will recognize her as Helen, Carey Mulligan‘s female counterpart in An Education, or as Jane Bennett in Joe Wright‘s 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.)

Pike, an ethereal blonde, appeared at the New York press conference for Jack Reacher alongside fellow Brit thespian David Oyelowo, writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, and author Lee Child, who wrote the best selling Jack Reacher book series.

The fictional Reacher is a blonde, six foot, five inch brawny behemoth — which has left some fans of the book outraged at the perceived miscasting of Cruise, a brunette who hovers around 5’7″. (Fans also howled because Cruise clearly had an inside track to getting the part — he was a co-producer before he signed on to also star in it).

“When we started to compile the list of six foot-five, 250 pound, blond-haired, blue-eyed, American actors, we discovered that not only were there none, but there had never been one and there were none in the pipeline,” explained McQuarrie. “We knew very early on that fans were going to have a reaction no matter who we cast.”

“So we thought, well, if they’re going to be angry, let’s make sure they’re angry before they see the movie and not after they see the movie. That meant that we could not compromise on any other aspect of the character.”

Author Lee Child, whose books have sold over 60 million copies worldwide, had a different reaction when asked about the casting controversy.

“First of all, I’m extremely grateful that any of my readers are so passionate about it. I mean, the first gold-standard metric that I would have given my right arm for at the beginning of my career was that people were going to care.”

The British-born author compared the changes the filmmakers made to Jonathan Demme‘s adaption of Silence of the Lambs, noting that in the book Hannibal Lecter has six fingers on one hand, and in the movie, he doesn’t, suggesting it was necessary for the book but not for the film.

“I’m confident that 10 percent of my fans are going to hate the movie anyway, because this is their possession and it’s being taken away from them. I absolutely understand that,” he admitted. “But 90 percent of them, if they go with open minds, are going to come out like I did and think, ‘I want to see it again. Right now, immediately! Because it was great!’”

Oyelowo, who played Preacher Green in The Help and also appears in Lincoln, confessed that as a man of color, “one of the things I have an allergic reaction to playing is the mandatory best-friend-cop-detective type, and you will never see me in that movie.”

In Jack Reacher, he does play a detective, albeit one that he sees as “a genuine counterpoint. There is a [Detective] Emerson movie, you know, that is parallel to this, in a sense. And he’s on his own track, and that was a lot of fun to play.”

McQuarrie, meanwhile, was candid, admitting that the movie company’s “unspoken mandate” was not to cast a person of color. The list of actors up for the part were all Caucasian and finally the star of the movie, Tom himself, decreed that Oyelowo should be cast.

“Tom said, ‘He’s really good, just put him in the role’,” McQuarrie recounted. “So David ended up in the movie. Also David is exceptionally good natured — and I’m not! And so I loved coming to work and taking advantage that he is such a good soul.”

‘Jack Reacher’ vs. ‘The Hobbit’: Box Office Battle (POLL)

With The Hobbit sitting comfortably in the number one slot this weekend, four films are poised to compete for the box-office bucks necessary to knock it from the throne. All of which makes it unlikely that Gandalf and his crew won’t still be king of the Misty Mountain next weekend, too.

But if any the movies opening this week might threaten the dwarves and their cinematic gold, Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher is the likeliest contender.

The gritty, action-thriller Jack Reacher is named for the title character in a long-running series of adventures by novelist Lee Child. A kind of modern-day, high-functioning Rambo, Reacher is an ex-soldier with no real roots in the world, traveling from city to city as he’s constantly pulled back into the world of American espionage.

Written and directed by the great Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Way of the Gun), Jack Reacher sees Tom Cruise cast in a role that’s poised to replace the dying Bourne franchise in the category of Movies-Named-After-Their-Heroes. A grounded, down-and-dirty actioner, Jack Reacherhas more than a dozen published novels to draw from for future sequels.

Less grounded – and certainly less dirty – the epic, FX-driven fantasy The Hobbit continues its quest through Middle Earth, having pocketed well over a $100 million internationally in just its first week of release. Reuniting several of the characters from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit tells the story of Bilbo Baggins long before the formation of the legendary Fellowship that swept away his beloved Frodo.

Celebuzz imagines that with four new films competing to vote-split the weekend, The Hobbit will remain in the top spot with Jack Reacher firmly in second place. Of course, that’s assuming that families don’t flock to see Pixar’s original Monsters, Inc. film in three all-new dimensions.

Which will you see this weekend – The Hobbit or Jack Reacher? Watch the Jack Reacher trailer, and then let us know which film you’re most interested in — and why — in the comments below!

Tom Cruise vs. ‘Jack Reacher’: How Similar Is the Movie Star and His Latest Character?

When Tom Cruise was first announced for the title character in Jack Reacher – novelist Lee Child’s iconic action-lit hero – those unfamiliar with the character likely just assumed that Tom Cruise would once again be playing the iconic role of Tom Cruise. Fans of the character and his nearly twenty best-selling adventures, however, quickly retrieved their book of puns and cleverly proclaimed, “Oh, now, that’s a reach!”

Tom Cruise and Jack Reacher, you see, have virtually nothing in common. Or do they?

1. Reacher is a broad-shouldered, barrel-chested six-foot-five. With cold, wintery-blue eyes and blonde hair that grows lighter with each passing novel, Reacher is the physical definition of brute strength.  At slightly-tall-for-a-Hobbit with eyes the color of hazelnut contact lenses, Cruise’s brown-haired, lean-trimmed frame may share the same overall level of fitness, but Lee’s Reacher would detest the level of exercise that Cruise requires to maintain his fifty-going-on-twenty-five physique.

2. Reacher is frequently depicted as being less than agile, trading speed for size, plodding aimlessly along the nation’s highways like some bad-mood Bruce Banner. On the other hand, if Mr. Cruise were any lighter on his feet, he’d be a handsomer version of the Red Bull angel. In fact, we’re under the impression that any T.C. blockbuster is contractually obligated to feature Cruise’s patented high-speed, Looney Toons trot.

3. From knife scars to bullet wounds, Reacher is covered in the physical evidence of his past encounters. Cruise is covered primarily in body lotion. There’s no denying that the version of Reacher we’ve seen in the trailers is far less rugged than the character described in Lee’s pulse-pounding series.

4. Cruise is widely known as the near-perfect poster child for Scientology, a quality what would likely earn a swift nut-shot from the literary Reacher. With an open distain for most religions and organized belief systems, Reacher carries a healthy suspicion of the corrupting power of faith.

5. Meanwhile, what Cruise does seem to nail about the character is his meticulous calculation during combat, swift moves determined by careful thought and aggressive plotting. Cruise’s films often show the actor’s physical thought process as the action escalates, using a location’s geography and available weaponry to his advantage. Reacher is often fascinated by math and metronomic rhythms, an aspect that closely aligns with Cruise’s physical specificity.

6. Reacher is also something of an American gypsy, traveling from town to town, continually pulled into conflict after conflict, not terribly unlike Cruise’s chosen profession of traveling between locations getting into fake adventures. Also, Cruise’s bank account could support about ten million Jack Reachers at once, but who’s counting?

7. While there’s no doubt that Cruise fails to fit the description of Reacher as detailed throughout Lee’s expansive series, we’re equally certain that the quiet, observant, emotionally distant qualities of the character will come through brilliantly. A more grounded, everyday version of Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, Reacher is a less forgiving character, but absolutely could be the next Jason Bourne.

Watch the theatrical trailer for Jack Reacher below, and then let us know in the comments: how important are the things that Cruise shares in common with Reacher, and how important are the things that he doesn’t?

Jimmy Fallon Wages Water War With Tom Cruise on ‘Late Night’ (VIDEO)

Tom Cruise once again proved he’s a good sport on Tuesday’s episode of Late Night, during which he took part in a classic game of Water War with host Jimmy Fallon.

The rules, of course, are quite simple: Whomever draws the highest card gets to douse their competitor with a glass — or, in one instance, a pitcher — of water.

Naturally, things got pretty wet. Which might be why it was so refreshing to see a superstar like Tom Cruise put up such an affable fight.

It might have helped that he eventually, you know, won the game.

Prior to the War, Cruise sat down for an interview — his first since his divorce from Katie Holmes — to promote his new movie Jack Reacher.

During the interview, Cruise, 50, admitted he injured his foot while filming the movie, in a rather, um, unconventional way.

“There’s a scene where I’m kicking a guy in the balls, the testicles,” he said.”It was a human being, [but] no testicles were injured in the making of the film!”

“We had to do the take over and over again, and the first 10 times it was like ‘Yeah!’” he continued. “After about 50 times in, my foot was swelling … I kept having to loosen my shoe.”

For more on Cruise’s late-nite visit, watch the video, above.

Suri Cruise Isn’t Getting a $24,000 Playhouse For Christmas

The presents underneath the Christmas tree are bound to be lavish and aplenty for Suri Cruise, but there’s one gift that Santa Claus won’t be bringing the famous tot this year — a larger-than-life Victorian playhouse, Celebuzz has learned.

While numerous reports claim her Broadway star mom Katie Holmes, 33, had purchased a Grand Victorian Luxury Playhouse — with an equally impressive price tag of $24,000 – Stacy Evrard, owner of Sweet Retreat Kids, told Celebuzz that’s simply not the case this holiday season.

“We have not sold this playhouse to Katie Holmes,” she said.

The mini mansion for Holmes’ mini me would have been perfect for the pampered 6-year-old, coming complete with running water and electricity, recessed lighting, play lofts, sunrooms, media rooms, kitchens, dining rooms, cathedral ceilings, and even intercoms connected to the main home.

Although the famous mommy-daughter duo are not Evrard’s customers, one gift Suri can expect from St. Nick is some quality family time with her dad and siblings. As Celebuzz previously reported, the six-year-old will be spending the holidays with her father Tom Cruise, 50, and half siblings Bella Cruise, 20, and Connor Cruise, 17.

The superstar actor’s youngest daughter has obviously been a good littl girl this year, as Cruise revealed at the London premiere of his latest flick Jack Reacher that he’s “got lots of very special things planned (for the holidays)” with his loved ones.

“We are all going to be together — I am looking forward to it,” he said.

Do you think this pricey playhouse is perfect for Suri? Weigh in below.
