Among the most heated races at the Golden Globes are the acting categories. Denzel Washington and Daniel Day-Lewis are in a virtual dead-heat for Best Actor in a drama, while newly Oscar-nominated Bradley Cooper (The Silver Linings Playbook) squares off opposite Les Mis frontrunner Hugh Jackman for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.

On Sunday, January 13, the awards will be handed out, but who will win? Who should win? Let Celebuzz help you figure that out with our guide to the Best Actor nominees.

This year is one of the most competitive ever; so many good actors cranked out some truly great performances. While a Golden Globe win is not a definite precursor to Oscar, it certainly doesn’t hurt one’s chances.

Jennifer Lawrence Sizzles in Sexy Vanity Fair Photo Shoot, Calls Acting ‘Stupid’ (PHOTOS)

From an outsider’s perspective, Jennifer Lawrence may look like she’s reveling in the rewards that come with being one of Hollywood’s upcoming stars — but don’t let that fool you.

Known for her candor and self-deprecating humor, the 22-year-old opens up about everything from acting and Hollywood to the Hunger Games and red carpet etiquette during an interview for Vanity Fair.

“Not to sound rude, but [acting] is stupid,” Lawrence said in the magazine’s February 2013 issue. “Everybody’s like, ‘How can you remain with a level head?’ And I’m like, ‘Why would I ever get cocky? I’m not saving anybody’s life. There are doctors who save lives and firemen who run into burning buildings. I’m making movies. It’s stupid.’”

Although she downplays her acting abilities, Lawrence admits she relates to the character that launched her into super-stardom: Katniss Everdeen.

“I read the Hunger Games books when it was Oscar season, so for the first time I was in these dresses which didn’t look like me and didn’t feel like me. I felt like a walking rag doll,” she said.”I remember sitting there in hair and makeup, listening to the things that they were talking about, and most of the things I didn’t even know … So I read that and I was like, ‘I know exactly how that feels.’”

Lawrence goes on to dish about walking the red carpet, which she compares to being “slaughtered,” and auditioning for her first role.

“I always felt like I sucked at everything, that I could never find the thing that I liked. I auditioned and I probably sucked, but I had decided 100 percent that this is what I wanted to do,” she said about breaking into Hollywood.

Lawrence — who recently garnered SAG and Golden Globe nods for Silver Linings Playbook — is currently rumored as the frontrunner for the Best Actress honor at this year’s Academy Awards — a distinction many would believe would boost her confidence around her colleagues. Not quite.

“Once I’m obsessed with somebody, I’m terrified of them instantly. I’m not scared of them — I’m scared of me and how I will react,” Lawrence admitted.

Like Meryl Streep and Bill Maher, for example.

“Like, for instance, one time someone was introducing me to Bill Maher, and I saw Meryl Streep walk into the room, and I literally put my hand right in Bill Maher’s face and said, ‘Not now, Bill!,’ and I just stared at Meryl Streep,” she joked.

In a recent interview, Transcendence producer Andrew Kosove revealed that the story “involves a scientist (Depp) whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself.” Nanotechnology and artificial intelligence is also involved. Depp’s casting is expected to attract an impressive ensemble, so Celebuzz will keep you posted. [The Wrap]

Jennifer Lawrence on How She Stays Out of the Tabloids: ‘I’m Very Boring’ (VIDEO)

Despite her popularity, Jennifer Lawrence has been conspicuously absent from the tabloids. The reason?

“I’m very boring and they know that,” Lawrence told NBC’s Andrea Canning Wednesday’s Today. “All paparazzis leave my house at like 5 pm because they know I’m not going anywhere.”

The Hunger Games star also offered her opinion on Hollywood’s obsession with weight — and her refusal to conform.

“I’ve never really dieted or wanted to diet or anything,” she said. “I just feel like it’s something that really overwhelms our industry in a bad way. It becomes this distracting dark cloud. It’s kind of gross, and I’m ready for it to stop.”

On the movie front, the 22-year-old is currently starring alongside Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook. Her turn as  Tiffany, a young widow and dancer, has even gotten Oscar buzz. How is she feeling about the chatter?

“I get nervous, awkward, jittery and excited,” she admitted. “I stay away from Google and magazines because that’s just an anxiety attack waiting to happen. I’m not normally aware of anything until I come on an interview and they tell me.”

Silver Linings Playbook opens nationwide on Wednesday. She’ll pop up on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that afternoon to promote it, following an appearance on Monday’s Tonight Show.

‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Premiere: Cast and Crew Spill On the ‘Emotional and Funny’ Adaptation (VIDEO)

Get your tissues out: Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence‘s Silver Linings Playbook is an “emotional and funny roller coaster ride,” according to its director, David O. Russell.

“It was very emotional and very funny as I found The Fighter [to be],” the 54-year-old filmmaker told Celebuzz at the movie’s premiere in New York City Monday night. “It’s what drew me to it.”

Despite the heavy subject matter, star Chris Tucker says he had no trouble channeling his serious side for the role.

“I wanted to do something different and new to show another side of me,” the Rush Hour actor, 40, told us. “I thought this was a great opportunity with a great director and a great cast to show that different side of me.”

Silver Linings Playbook revolves around a former teacher (Cooper) who moves back in with his parents after a stint in a mental institution. The film is due out Nov. 21.

‘Silver Linings Playbook’ Star Bradley Cooper Jokes About His Last Day as Sexiest Man Alive: ‘We Do a Retreat’ (VIDEO)

What do you do on after your last day as the sexiest man alive? Bradley Cooper joked, “We do a retreat, we have a retreat that we go on. [George] Clooney runs it. We go up to Lake Tahoe.”

Speaking with Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan on Live with Kelly and Michael Tuesday, Ripa then continued to joke that maybe there’s a chance he could repeat. However, it was reported last week that Channing Tatum will take the title from Cooper when People hits the news stands on Wednesday.

Earlier in the morning, Cooper joked with Matt Lauer on NBC’s Today, “There’s a whole decompression. After this I get whisked away to somewhere in Wisconsin and they talk me down for a week. I think Matt Damon started it. “

Cooper, 37, was working the morning show circuit to promote his new film, Silver Linings Playbook. which co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Deniro.

The Hangover star plays Pat, a man who is bipolar and is released from a mental institution, then moves in with his parents (Deniro and Jacki Weaver). He meets a mysterious girl, Tiffany (Lawrence).

Silver Linings Playbook was filmed in Philadelphia, Pa. near where Cooper is from. Given that most actors who star in Philly-set movies happen to be from New York, he says director David O’Russell wanted to make sure they did a good job representing the city. He tells Ripa and Strahan that the iconic DeNiro asked his uncle for help with his accent and lines.

“[Deniro’s uncle is] sitting in between Bob and David O’Russell and we went through the entire script,” says Cooper. “At the end of it, he walked out. There’s something about Philadelphia people. There’s a real confidence… He walked out and he’s like… ‘We’ll see how he does if he does it the way I said it.’ ”

You can watch portions of Cooper’s interview with Ripa and Strahan above and below.

Silver Linings Playbook is out in limited release this Friday and nationwide on Nov. 21.
