The Wanted Receives an Unwanted Gift (VIDEO)

The Wanted

The ladies may love The Wanted, but the British boy band aren’t digging some of the gifts they find from their adoring female fans.

Tom Parker — who shot to fame with the group’s hit “Glad You Came” last year — told Celebuzz at the 2013 People Choice Awards that someone once hurled a used tampon at him during a concert.

When asked about his craziest fan experience, Parker simply quipped, “[I found] a bloody tampon onstage.”

Luckily, Parker and his bandmates – Max George, Nathan Sykes, Jay McGuiness and Siva Kaneswaran — got a much better present at Wednesday night’s award ceremony, taking home the Favorite Breakout Artist award.

“We’ve never won an award before,” Parker said to us on the red carpet before nabbing the title. “Fingers crossed!”

The group beat out Carly Rae Jepsen, Goyte, Fun. and their boy band rivals, One Direction, for the award.

“This never happens to us,” George told the crowd during the acceptance speech. “We’ve never won anything before … We never expected this at all.”

The boys also performed an impromptu acapella version of the Starland Vocal Band’s hit “Afternoon Delight,” which they had promised talk show host Ellen DeGeneres they perform if they were to win that night.

Olivia Munn: People’s Choice Is the ‘Most Exciting’ Award Show of the Season (VIDEO)

People's Choice Awards 2013 red carpet fashion

Alas, the long-awaited awards season is in full swing, with the Golden Globes, Grammys and the Academy Awards all coming down the pipeline. But for Olivia Munn, the best show has already come and gone.

“Growing up and watching the People’s Choice Awards, it was always the most exciting one for me by far,” the comedienne told Celebuzz on the ceremony’s Wednesday red carpet at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif.

“When you’re in the audience and you’re watching it, that’s what matters,” she continued. “It really hard to make things that entertain people and get people to want to spend their time.”

Stunning in a Carolina Herrera frock paired with black Christian Louboutin platform pumps, Munn even played a part in evening, presenting the People’s Choice trophy for Favorite Country Artist alongside Johnny Galecki.

But as a beaming Taylor Swift strolled on stage to collect her win, Munn pulled a bit of a Kanye West. After Munn casually snatching the award out of Swift’s hands, the country-pop crooner joked, “This always happens.”

“And it always will happen, Taylor,” Munn said dryly. “This is your lot in life.”

Then Munn slipped back into a smile and returned the award to its rightful recipient, saying, “I’m not going to be this person.”

That’s the classic comedic snark that Munn shares in her multi-episode arc on New Girl.

“I love everyone there,” the actress gushed of the Fox comedy cast. But Munn is still flexing her dramatic muscles on HBO series Newsroom.

“We’re in the second season of Newsroom now and it will premiere in June so we’re shooting it now,” she explained. “It’s so much fun to go from hardcore drama with [Aaron] Sorkin to doing this really fun comedy on New Girl.”

People’s Choice Awards: All the Winners from the 2013 Event

In case you missed the live showing of the 2013 People’s Choice Awards, we’re bringing you all of the winner’s from the event. But before we get to the nitty-gritty details, let us preface this by saying that The Hunger Games cleaned house, taking home six — count them again – six of the night’s biggest honors, including Favorite Movie and Favorite Movie Actress, Jennifer Lawrence. It was kind of like this year’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which garnered an impressive amount of awards at the 2012 show.

Speaking of HP, its heroine, Emma Watson, snagged herself a trophy last night for her role in the now PCA-winning The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Favorite Dramatic Movie).

One surprise we will comment on is the winner of Favorite Breakout Star: The Wanted. As big of fans as we are of the boy band, we were a bit shocked that One Direction didn’t win this category, since, based on Twitter fans alone, TW has 1.8 million followers while 1D has 9.1 million. Guess the votes just fell in The Wanted’s favor, eh? The acceptance speech was cute, though. The guys admitted that they never won anything before, so to commemorate their first real award, they sang “Afternoon Delight” — to Ellen DeGeneres… Okay, onto all the rest!

Hollywood’s biggest stars kicked off the 2013 Awards Show Season in style, donning an eclectic array of fresh and fun looks to tonight’s People’s Choice Awards.

If tonight was a preview of the fashion to come this awards season, we’re in for a sartorial treat. As diverse as it was stylish, the red carpet was full of fresh fashion eye candy.

From bright and bold to simple and sophisticated, subtly sexy to serious sparkle, refined romance to modern minimalism,we’re rounding up all the red carpet’s most buzz-worthy fashion.

There were plenty of style surprises but none more stunning than Taylor Swift‘s sparkle- and- pastel-free ensemble. We couldn’t have imagined a better revenge look than stunning white Ralph Lauren gown that the newly-single star donned. The curve-skimming silhouette topped off with the plunging neckline cast the singer in a sexy new light that screamed, “Eat your heart out, Harry Styles!

Olivia Munn and Julianne Hough also switched up their style, opting for ladylike over sexy or edgy. Also toning it down after a series of overly-revealing red carpet looks: Heidi Klum, who wowed in a black-and-gold cutout dress that showed just enough skin.

Naomi Watts also went with the glam color combo, donning a backless gold-and-black Alexander McQueen number. The Impossible star’s edgy updo (did she visit Miley Cyrus’ hairstylist before the show?) offered an unexpected contrast to the glitzy gown. Also heating up the red carpet, Lea Michele sizzled in a sparkly pink mini dress with sheer paneling.

Red carpet newcomer, Chloë Grace Moretz seems set on making a name for herself as one of the season’s standout style stars. The young actress shined in a neon lace frock. Meanwhile awards show veterans Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullockshowed the young’ens how it’s done in chic fashion-forward styles.

Of course, all that red carpet risk-taking rarely comes without casualties…

While in past, we’ve seen everything from the outrageous to the tawdry and just plain tacky, this year’s fashion faux pas were less overt. Still, it never gets old seeing which stars just plain missed the mark.

See our picks for the People Choice Awards’ best-dressed stars. Then check out the night’s biggest fashion flops.

Christina Aguilera Gives Candlelit Performance of ‘Blank Page’ at 2013 People’s Choice Awards

Surrounded by white candles, wearing a white blazer and black leggings and sporting unwashed, white blond hair, Christina Aguilera took the stage to perform the ballad ‘Blank Page’ at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards tonight (Jan. 9.)

It was a simple and unfettered performance, one that allowed Xtina’s powerhouse voice to command the attention of every person in the auditorium.

Even though her voice was a tiny bit strained, she still sounded better than most on their best day.

Power ballads like this are Xtina’s forte, and she reminded us why we loved her so much in the first place. While her “comeback” album ‘Lotus’ may have flopped, if this song finds its audience, the album could get a second life.

After performing the song, she was handed the People’s Voice Award, and in her acceptance speech, she admitted that was the first time that she sang that song without crying. She also confessed that singing is the only time she feels like she is truly herself, and that she finds a home in music. It was a touching speech, and an entertaining performance.

Curiously enough, she gushed about ‘The Voice’ producer Mark Burnett in such a way that made us think that it was a calculated attempt to make sure she gets her chair back on the show and doesn’t lose it to Shakira. Xtina is on hiatus for Season 4, with the Latin dynamo filling in for her.

Katy Perry Wins Big at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards

Very nice way to start the new year, indeed, Katy! Perry took home the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Pop Artist, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Music Video, with her KatyCats winning for Favorite Music Fan Following. Phew! Did you catch all that?

Perry said the Fan Following Award meant the most to her saying, “I think my fans support me so much. They’re kind of like my friends.”

Keeping her speech short and sweet, Perry did hint that she would be putting out new music in the near future, but surely did not say it with any urgency. She remarked, she would be back to “entertaining you… again. So back to the studio I go.”

With the whirlwind couple of years Perry has had, we don’t blame her for wanting to catch her breath before starting up on another album, tour etc… Perhaps she wants to focus on her budding relationship with John Mayer? Perhaps.

The Wanted Win Favorite Breakout Artist at 2013 Peoples Choice Award, Sing Impromptu Version of ‘Afternoon Delight’

The Wanted

The Wanted did the cutest thing ever in the history of the People’s Choice Awards tonight!

The boys won for Favorite Breakout Artist at the 2013 PCAs and after gushing about their supporters, like Ellen DeGeneres, who had them perform on her namesake show when they were just starting out, they revealed that they promised they’d perform a song for her if they won. They kept their word and engaged in an impromptu, a capella version of ‘Afternoon Delight.’

It was hilarious, since you could tell that the boys were being prompted by unseen forces (like producers or teleprompters) to hurry up and get off the stage. They began to speed up their rendition of the song, last popularized in brilliant fashion by Ron Burgundy and his crack team of TV telecasters in ‘Anchorman.’ They started slow and by 20 seconds in, they were singing super fast like they were auditioning for ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ … Okay, it wasn’t that fast, but still.

The Wanted’s speech was cute, too, and you could tell they were blown away by the big win.

“We never won anything before,” member Max George said. “It shows that our fans are real troopers. A big thanks to Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber, and Island Records, and to Ellen DeGeneres for having us on her show.”

Nathan Sykes said that over the holidays, he told his “mum” he wanted to win a massive award, so this was unbelievable for him and the band.

Congrats to the Wanted!

Alicia Keys Performs ‘Girl on Fire’ + ‘New Day’ at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards

Before Alicia Keys even stepped out on stage, her persona was embodied in an anecdote told by ‘Criminal Minds’ star Shermar Moore. He first met her about 10 years ago and was trying to smooth talk the songstress, to which Keys replied, “I respect your flirt game, but my man situation is handled.” Strong, sassy and classy!

Keys kicked off her performance at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards with a more subdued version of her uptempo track, ‘Girl on Fire.’ Sporting a red ringleader’s jacket, Alicia took over piano duties with accompaniment by an acoustic guitarist and a couple of backup singers.

Later, the pace picked up and Keys was joined on stage by a slew of male dancers in suits (like we said… classy!) for ‘New Day.’ Keys abandoned her usual post behind the ivories and worked the stage with her dapper dancers. For someone who doesn’t typically venture far from her piano during her live performances, Alicia’s stunning vocals did not suffer one bit.

Our favorite part of the performance? Getting to see hubby Swizz Beatz with one of their kids jamming out to mom’s performance. Cute!

Maroon 5 Wins Favorite Band at 2013 People’s Choice Awards

Maroon 5 picked up the award for Favorite Band at the 2013 People’s Choice Awards (Jan. 9). Singer and ‘The Voice’ coach Adam Levine may have sparked a ‘New Couple Alert’ with his acceptance speech, since he referenced Taylor Swift. Wait, what?

Well, here’s what happened. Swift won Favorite Country Artist a few minutes earlier and presenter/actress Olivia Munn joked that T. Swizzle wrote ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ about her. She then pretended to clutch the award and refused to hand it over to Swift, who deadpanned, “This always happens,” which is a reference to Kanye West firebombing her VMAs acceptance speech a few years ago.

So, Levine stumbled for words, saying, “Thank you very much and everyone gets up here and thanks the fans and that’s boring, but being in a band it’s the fans… Taylor Swift is so charming.”

He literally interrupted himself, and then said, “She got up here and said, ‘This always happens,’ that’s genius, by the way. Damn you, Swift.”

He probably meant that since she wins so many awards, she is in the position to have people mess with her speeches. It was cute, and really had nada to do with winning Favorite Band, but perhaps this will spark some communication and tweets between the two, leading to a little something, something? You never, like, ever, know.

Eat your heart out, Harry Styles. Your ex-girlfriend knocked ‘em dead tonight in her elegant winter white Ralph Lauren frock with a plunging neckline, paired with bronzed, smoky eyes. Fly back to the States and win her back!
