Nicki Minaj Loses Her Wig Stylist

As famous for her insane style and rainbow weaves as she is for her hooks and rhymes, Nicki Minaj is turning over a new wig — er, leaf. The ‘Freedom’ MC has kicked her wig stylist to the curb, which may be why she’s been sporting sleeker, more subdued styles as of late.

Celebuzz reports that her longtime wig man, Terrence Davidson, has bowed out of working with the sometimes temperamental starlet. “Terrence Davidson most recently served as the celebrity hairstylist, wig creator and creative director for Nicki Minaj,” a press release stated. “After creative differences, he has decided to pursue other opportunities.”

Davidson released his own statement, writing, “It has been an amazing experience offering me a chance to express my creativity and exhibit my love for the art form of wig design. I have decided to part ways from Nicki Minaj because I would like to explore other opportunities within my own brand and re-energize my creativity through work in fashion editorial, beauty consultations, media personality, ‘how-to’ lectures and hair show development. I am very proud of the body of work built with Nicki Minaj and I appreciate the support over the years from fans who’ve expressed love for my craft. Look forward to seeing me larger than life in 2013.”

However, a source says that there was more behind Davidson’s resignation that just a desire to give lectures on wig making, claiming that Minaj unleashed a torrent of “derogatory statements” against the stylist. No details were given as to what those statements are, but they had to have been pretty bad for him walk away from one of the biggest stars on the planet … if it’s true.

In the meantime, we’ll just have to watch Minaj snatch Mariah Carey‘s wigs on the ‘American Idol‘ set.

In the February issue of Marie Claire, the 39-year-old embraces her sexuality and dishes about her steamy private life.

“It’s good to make an effort to dress up sometimes – to do things outside of the norm,” she urges readers.

The Project Runway host and fashion icon has recently become very cozy in her rebound romance with her long-time bodyguard, Martin Kristen. The unlikely pairing sparked controversy back in September, having been brought to the forefront just a few months after Klum and her hubby of seven years, “Kiss From a Rose”singer Seal, called it quits.

Nicki Minaj Hairstylist Quits, Cites ‘Creative Differences’

In one of the more bizarre stories involving a celebrities’ entourage, Nicki Minaj‘s hairstylist has quit the singer’s team, citing “creative differences.”

But in a surprising twist, Terrence Davidson issued a press release to announce the end of his working relationship with the American Idol judge after three years of service.

“Terrence Davidson most recently served as the celebrity hairstylist, wig creator and creative director for Nicki Minaj,” the release stated. “After creative differences, he has decided to pursue other opportunities.”

Davidson, who has also worked with Jennifer Hudson and Mary J. Blige, said he was leaving Minaj, 30, to “reenergize” his creativity.

Davidson wrote:

“I would like to inform the media and supporters that I’ve decided to step away as hair stylist and wig creator for Nicki Minaj. It has been an amazing experience offering me a chance to express my creativity and exhibit my love for the art form of wig design. I have decided to part ways from Nicki Minaj because I would like to explore other opportunities within my own brand and reenergize my creativity through work in fashion editorial, beauty consultations, media personality, “how-to” lectures and hair show development. I am very proud of the body of work built with Nicki Minaj and I appreciate the support over the years from fans who¹ve expressed love for my craft. Look forward to seeing me larger than life in 2013.”

A source close to Davidson told Celebuzz that he quit following “a series of derogatory statements” by the “Starships” singer and her management.

Minaj has had a tempestuous relationship with many of her staff, according to reports.

Minaj reportedly unleashed a vicious tirade on a facialist in 2011.

“After I waxed her eyebrows and lip, she started screaming “Who the f**k do you think you are?”

Dawn DaLuise said, in an interview, “Look what you did to my damn face! You think this sh*t is worth 170 dollars?”

Fear not, though: Terrence’s work on Minaj will still be seen through the month of February when she appears on the American Idol tapings, the release said.

Nicki Minaj + Mariah Carey Make Up… By Watching Minaj’s Sex Tape

Sometimes your enemies become your friends, and in Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey‘s case, sometimes that happens by watching a sex tape together.

During a press conference for ‘American Idol‘ with Minaj and Carey, the ‘Starships’ rapper claimed that she and the R&B diva have declared a truce. According to The Sun, when asked how the two judges made up, Minaj said: “I put on my sex tape.” Carey then said: “Time heals all wounds.” Minaj quickly added, “And we watched my tape … We’re professionals.”

Minaj also added that Carey is one of her “favorite artists of all time.” She continued, “She’s really shaped a generation of singers. To be on a panel with her, it’s kind of crazy.”

Let bygones be bygones! Last October, a video from the auditions taping surfaced, showing Minaj yelling at Carey and threatening to “knock out” the singer. However, the stars claim everything is A-OK between them now.

It has yet to be determined when the casual sex tape viewing went down. Just as recently as earlier this week, Carey said she had to hire extra security on set because her altercations with Minaj made her feel “unsafe.”

“Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, that’s just not appropriate. Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not gonna take any chances, so yeah I did hire more security,” she said. The two-part season premiere of ‘American Idol’ will air on Jan. 16 and Jan. 17 on FOX at 8PM ET.

‘American Idol’ Judges Explain What They’re Looking For

American Idol Season 12 Ryan Seacrest and Judges Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson New 'American Idol' Judges Shoot New York Auditions: Cast photo New 'American Idol' Judges Shoot New York Auditions: Nicki Minaj New 'American Idol' Judges Shoot New York Auditions: Keith Urban New 'American Idol' Judges Shoot New York Auditions: Mariah Carey New 'American Idol' Judges Shoot New York Auditions: Ryan Seacrest New 'American Idol' Judges Shoot New York Auditions: Randy Jackson

FOX’s upcoming twelfth season of American Idol is sure to draw some curiosity with three new superstar judges whose backgrounds couldn’t be more different.

“It will be quite fun as you watch their different styles of judging and what they’re looking for,” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, 63, told the audience during Wednesday’s premiere screening event in Los Angeles.

Mariah [Carey], I think, is looking for that singer/songwriter, that’s a true star, Nicki Minaj is looking for somebody that isn’t just there for their voice, but there for their performance, their charisma and everything else. Keith Urban is looking for an authentic singer, someone who is credible. Randy Jackson, I’d say, is looking for someone who sings on pitch,” he continued.

Their backgrounds couldn’t be more diverse. Jackson, 56, the veteran Idol judge has been with the show since its debut season more than a decade ago. Carey is a power vocalist and arguably one of the most celebrated voices of our time. Thirty-year-old Minaj is a relatively new celebrity (compared to Carey). She’s a rapper and pop princess who likes to employ several personalities, sometimes simultaneously. And Urban is an Australian country singer. Each has different styles, different perspectives, and different ideas on what they’re looking for from this year’s hopefuls.

Jackson seems pretty confident about his formula for finding the right contestants. “There are three things that are really big characteristics for me,” the musician said. “They are uniqueness, unbelievable talent, and star power. Those are the three things a great artist needs and will give you a shot at a great career.”

On the other hand, Urban is a bit more emotional about what he’s looking for in contestants. “The reality is that we all react differently to different things and so I think for me, at the end of the day, it has to speak to me,” he said.

“If a person is creating art and saying something in a way that I’m captivated by that person and I can’t take my eyes off that person, that’s it for me.”

Minaj confirmed Lythgoe’s assertion that she’s looking for an all-around entertainer more than a standout vocalist saying, “I think that it’s something where you’ll know it when you’re in the same room with it.

“If you named the 10 biggest stars out right now, who would you say has a Whitney Houston voice? That’s just not where we are right now,” the hip-hop artist elaborated. “So, I think that because of this day and time, I’m looking for an overall entertainer. [I’m looking for] someone who is going to captivate people with or without music.”

Carey, 42, says she’s still learning what she wants in a contestant. And so far, her choices have spanned from favoring street performers to strong vocalists.

“To me it doesn’t matter, “ she said. “They can be unique in some way, different in another way. It’s a learning experience for me and what I’ve seen is that diversity plays into it in a deep way.”

Nicki Minaj Believes Rappers Don’t Belong on ‘American Idol’

Nicki Minaj

There’s an ongoing debate among viewers as to whether there’s a place for rappers on TV talent competitions — especially as they’re showing up on recent seasons of NBC’s The Voice and FOX’s The X Factor.

But, new American Idol judge Nicki Minaj doesn’t think there’s a place for them on her show.

“I definitely don’t think a rapper should be in this competition,” Minaj said at Tuesday’s Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, Calif.

The platinum album-selling Minaj says it all comes down to authenticity for hip hop artists. “The hip hop community wants you to be credible,” she explained.

“They want to know that you really went through a certain thing in your life. This is different,” the 30-year-old rapper continued. “With singing, people really don’t care what you’ve necessarily gone through… But with rap, it’s different. So I would never go on a show like this as a rapper, and I wouldn’t encourage anyone else to come on as a rapper.”

For what it’s worth, Minaj’s fellow judge and sometime combatant, Mariah Carey, also says, “I personally would never have wanted to do this type of show.” But for the superstar diva, whose first album was released back in 1990, that decision would have been based on how ill-prepared she was for stardom as a young girl.

“I think I was a little bit shy and unpolished in the beginning in order to be on one of these shows, which, at that time, you would have had to be a little bit more showy and have your whole thing together,” Carey, 42, explains.

“Whereas, I just wanted people to hear me for my voice and for my songs that I was writing, and I didn’t have very many clothes or outfits or things,” she continued. “So that part of the competition would have been out the window. I had my one black dress, my one pink dress. That was it.”

American Idol returns to FOX on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8PM.

Chart-topping pop stars Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine have partnered with Kmart to bring their respective fashion lines to its stores and the shopping website, ShopyourWay.com.

As we previously reported, both the Queen Barbz and Maroon 5 frontman will develop separate lifestyle brands that will include apparel, housewares and accessories.

“We welcome Adam and Nicki into our world and look forward to capturing their energy and creativity on ShopYourWay.com and translating it into unique apparel, accessories and other merchandise,” beamed Imran Jooma, a Marketing & Online executive at Sears Holdings, which owns Kmart.

For Minaj, this is a great opportunity for her to create a unique fashion line, which she has always talked about in past interviews. “I am so excited to work with this iconic, mass retailer and to bring affordable fashion to my beautiful barbz all across the U.S.,” she said.

“Partnering with Shop Your Way to develop this line was an exciting opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to diving into the process of designing an apparel and accessory collection,” added Levine.

Both lifestyle brands from Minaj and Levine are expected to hit Kmart stores by the 2013 holiday season.

‘American Idol’ Judges Mariah Carey + Nicki Minaj Forced to Say Nice Things About Each Other

They may say the drama is over and in the rear view, but it doesn’t seem to be for new ‘American Idol‘ judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. It’s TMDFOJP – Too Much Diva for One Judging Panel!

While at the Television Critics Association panel earlier today (Jan. 8), Carey labeled their beef “one-sided,” while Minaj, of course, disagreed.

A reporter asked the divas to say something nice about one another at the event, according to The Wrap.

“That actually is easy,” Minaj said, going first, despite some visible awkwardness. “I say nice things about Mariah all the time. I even tell her all the time how much a fan I am of her. She’s one of my favorite artists of all time. She’s really shaped a generation of singers.” She also said that so many of the show’s hopefuls “aspire to be a Mariah Carey.” So the rapper laid it on thick.

Carey, who claimed to be battling a sinus infection from Dem Babies, thanked Minaj for her “sweet” words. She complimented Minaj by saying, “Nicki and I worked together very early on in her career and did a song from an album that I had done called ‘Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. It’s called ‘Up Out My Face,’ ironically.”

She added, “Actually it was one of my favorite videos and songs. And I did feel that she was going to go very far and still have that feeling and am grateful for anything nice that she or anyone were to say about me.” Yikes. That sounded pretty forced, didn’t it?

But then again, Mimi seemed legitimately distressed by the fight with Minaj.

In her chat with Barbara Walters, Carey said she beefed up her security detail after her verbal battle with Minaj. “It felt like an unsafe work environment,” Carey said. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment.”

At the conference, though, Minaj asked if anyone else ever had a fight with someone they worked with. Point taken.

Take a peek at the photo above, taken at the panel. Does any one of those judges look even remotely happy to be there? You know what’s worth a thousand words, right?

Reporters got a little taste of what it’s like to see a disagreement between American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj go down.

FOX gathered the reality competition’s judges and producers in Pasadena for the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, Calif. on Tuesday. And, naturally, questions arose about the much-reported feud between Carey and Minaj, which reached a fever pitch when the two sparred in a leaked video during auditions.

“The whole thing was convoluted,” Carey, 42, said. “You know what it is? It’s a distraction from the show and it’s a distraction from the contestants. And I think it’s unfair to them, really. It shouldn’t be about any of us sitting up here, it should be about the contestants.”

But, of course, the public still wants to know. The entire panel seemed to have their talking points on the feud: That sometimes things get heated when the judges disagree and that they actually want them to be passionate about the contestants.

But, there was a moment when Carey may have gone rogue. A reporter asked how the two of them got past that very angry fight caught on tape.

Carey replied, “I did nothing and here we are.” Then, she added, “It was all one-sided.”

To which Minaj scowled, “No, it wasn’t.”

Mariah Carey Is Moving on From ‘American Idol’ Feud With Nicki Minaj

Mariah Carey in Australia

After 200 million albums sold, countless chart-topping singles and the title of best-selling female artist of all time, Mariah Carey already had it all after two decades in the spotlight.

Then came American Idol, a deal with which she is rumored to cash in $18 million a season. ”I think we’re in the ballpark, [but] I can’t even talk about those things,” Carey told ABC’s Barbara Walters in a Nightline interview on Monday.

But the hit Fox competition show hasn’t been all smooth sailing since Carey signed on the dotted line.

In October, Idol hit headlines when a video leaked of Nicki Minaj, 29, bickering with — and spewing F-bombs at — fellow new judge Carey, 42, during auditions in Charlotte, N.C. “There was a very heated, intense argument towards the end of the day,” Idol host Ryan Seacrest said of the bitter blowout on his morning radio show, adding that it went “a little too far.”

Carey — who’s making waves with a new bikini photo reportedly taken while Down Under for her mini Australia tour — claimed that after the cameras stopped rolling, others heard Minaj make further threats like, “If I had a gun, I would shoot that bitch,” as Walters revealed on her daytime talk show, The View.

“It felt like an unsafe work environment,” Carey told Walters. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment.”

That’s why Carey made a move to beef up her security team. “I just felt it was the appropriate thing to do,” she explained. “Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not going to take any chances.”

But for now, Carey says the dust has settled between the dueling divas. “For all the drama, I hope it helps the show,” the Grammy winner said. “I think it’s a classic, classy show and it didn’t need this.”

“For me, ultimately, this is about the kids, the contestants,” Carey continued. “I’ve been blessed to live my dream more than half my life, so I want help give that back to someone else.”
