Between her country roots and covers and her ‘Rebel Yell’-ing, no one really knows what to expect from Miley Cyrus‘ new record — except the people working on it with her. Pharrell Williams compared the project to Justin Timberlake‘s transformation from N’SYNC heartthrob to solo superstar and sang the praises of Cyrus not only as a singer, but also as a person.
At first glance, it’s hard to see exactly what (well, other than a paycheck) would compel Williams and Tyler, the Creator to work with teen pop tart Cyrus, but when Williams explains it, it makes a lot more sense. “What we all have in common is that we like new stuff, we like making music that doesn’t exist,” the former half of the Neptunes told HypeBeast. “That’s what Tyler has in common with me and what I have in common with Miley.” He added, “Put it this way, he heard her music and next thing you know he’s in the picture with her. That’s not what you would expect, but that’s what I love doing: totally surprising people.”
Despite their differences, Williams said it wasn’t too hard to get a good vibe going with the ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ singer. “Yeah, at times people were difficult, but it’s all part of the process,” he explained. “She is an old soul that was trapped in a younger situation who just bursted [sic] at the seams, and I was just happy to be there during that transformation.”
Williams pointed out that he faced similar criticism and questioning when he first started working with Timberlake, who’s “ready” to release new music himself. “I remember when they use to ask me about the same questions with Justin [Timberlake]; people be like why you going in with N’SYNC? Because there’s somebody in there that you don’t know,” he insisted. “Wait till you see what Miley’s done. Oh man!”

The first full week of 2013 was packed with celebrity-filled activities, like Noah Cyrus’ 13th birthday party (where Bella Thorne hung out with Miley Cyrus!), the Struck by Lightning movie premiere and the People’s Choice Awards red carpet. Though you may’ve not gotten a personal invite to any of these events, you can still count on the social media-addicted stars to give an inside look.
@Maxgschneider Miami! 26spg <<< I just found out there are $20 tickets for the Gala for @YoungArts I'll be performing in this Saturday (the 12th) at 7Pm at the Gussman theater! Otherwise it will still be streaming live at Youngarts.org :-) Photo by- Kayybee92
Though the two biggest red carpet extravaganzas of the year — the Golden Globes and the Oscars — tend to steal all the style thunder, the People’s Choice Awards happens to be one of our favorite red carpet events to watch.
Not only is it a chance for stars to set the tone for the rest of the red carpet season, but there’s also less pressure to hit a home run, so we see many stars get more adventurous with their looks. Translation: The fashion is often far more fun and exciting to watch.
Plus, the fashion tends to be a little more casual compared to the dramatic couture confections that pour out come Golden Globes and Oscars time, with fashionistas like Emma Stone, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lawrence and Selena Gomez donning everything from pants and tuxedo jacekts to mini dresses on the red carpet.
In other words, the red carpet fashion is far more translatable to real life, so there’s always plenty of inspiration to steal for your next cocktail party or night-out.
As for the real-life Styles, his romance with Swift — affectionately dubbed Haylor — made headlines once again when they reportedly parted ways. He also joined his bandmates in London on Tuesday as they started rehearsals for their upcoming Take Me Home tour.
Hours after the pic hit Twitter timelines, Cyrus quickly shot down any speculation. “In no way do I want Harry. No offense. I’m sure that’ll be a story now 2. I’m happily engaged. Just got saucy with a cardboard cut out,” she posted.
Kidding! Cyrus actually tweeted pics of her and her little sister Noah in bed with a Harry Styles cardboard cutout.
We’re not going to ask what the Sisters Cyrus were doing with said Hazza avatar or how they came to possess it. We did, however, have a hearty laugh at the images of Cyrus planting a kiss on Harry’s cardboard cheek.
The photos are obviously ill-timed, since Haylor just broke up like a few minutes ago. And given the fact that an entertainment writer tried to instigate a little tweet heat between Cyrus and T. Swizzle for how they are portrayed and perceived in the media, this could certainly spark a little angst between the blondes.
Cyrus knew that these photos would spark controversy and chatter, and even added that to the tweet of herself getting busy with a faux Harry. Still, she took him seriously when he sang the lyrics to ‘Kiss You.’
Look at how she’s looking at him lovingly, and cradling him. Even a cardboard version of H. Styles makes the ladies swoon.
Below is her first tweet, and then the follow up, which was a pre-emptive measure to stop the “OMG Miley is cheating on Liam Hemsworth with Harry Styles” web trash talk. We can also think that a bazillion Directioners would want Hazza even if Cyrus does not.
January 8 is a big day for Noah Cyrus, she’s turning 13! Thanks to her sister Miley‘s fame, millions have watched her grow into the young lady she is today. Now, they say sisters make the best friends, and it’s easy to see that Noah’s big sis has had somewhat of an influence on Noah. So, to celebrate Noah’s big day, we came up with five reasons why Noah is just like her big sis. Check them out below!
1. Noah loves animals.
Miley’s dog brood just keeps on expanding (she adopted little Bean last week!) and while Noah also has a soft spot for animals, Noah is more of a horse person. In fact, Noah just sent out this tweet hours before her b-day:
Miley dated Nick Jonas back in the day, so it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that Noah and Nick’s little bro Frankie became friends. While many see Frank as the “Bonus Jonas,” it’s almost like Noah is the equivalent of that for Miley! Noah and Frankie attended many red carpets together, and loved to goof off and take plenty of pictures.
3. Similar fashion sense.
Miley loves to rock a boho-chic look, and while it’s evolved into a more rocker-chic look over the years, the hasn’t changed Noah from following in her sisters fashion foot steps. This photo shows they both look baggy tops and to show off their legs in short shorts!
4. Good taste…in guys!
While Miley is happily engaged to Aussie hottie Liam Hemsworth, Noah is crushing on One Direction‘s Harry Styles. Though Noah is a little young for 18-year-old Harry, she did tweet her excitement over his recent split with Taylor Swift.
happy bday to me happy bday to me Harry broke up with Taylor happy bday to me. — Noah Lindsey Cyrus (@noahcyrus) January 7, 2013
5. Love to Tweet/Instagram.
Though Noah is trailing Miley when it comes to Twitter followers — Miley has 11 million, while Noah has just over 225k — that doesn’t mean she tweets any less than her big sis. Whether she’s meeting celebs (like Pretty Little Liars star Keegan Allen!), or just taking pics of her silly self, Noah and Miley love social media!
Do you think Noah will get into acting or singing like Miley? Sound off in the comments, and make sure to send her some b-day love!
Behind the four No. 1 albums, more than two dozen chart-climbing hits and countless sold-out concert, Justin Bieber is a brand built on a wholesome image.
Now that carefully-crafted image is being called into question by two online photos that show the teen pop phenom holding what appears to be a marijuana blunt — a cleared out cigar packed with pot — at a Jan. 2 party in a Newport Beach, Calif., hotel room.
As they spread the web like wildfire, the images sparked a range of reaction among Bieber’s millions-strong worldwide fan base, with some berating the star, others saying a one-time slip can be forgiven and still others dismissing the drug as no big deal.
Though his team has not addressed the controversy, Bieber seemed to touch on the topic on Twitter. “everyday growing and learning. trying to be better,” he wrote. “u get knocked down, u get up.”
So will Bieber — named by Forbes’ as the third-most powerful celebrity in the world last year — be able to bounce back from this blunder? Short answer: Yes, in time.
“Overall, his fan base will be unaffected and will remain loyal,” says Stacey Jones, CEO of Hollywood Branded Inc. “This is not a major transgression. It is a mess up, not a deal breaker. He won’t be forever tarnished from this one incident.”
Still, Bieber may lose some fans — those that held him on a pedestal of perfection or younger Beliebers whose protective parents are disenchanted by his marijuana misstep. But in the long run, it may be better that Bieber’s once squeaky-clean brand is be slightly sullied.
“I think this makes him seem more like a real person, which I think is important,” explains Monica Cost, Chief Brand Strategist of Evidently Assured LLC. “When you build a brand that looks so pristine, then the chinks in the armor come out [or] the people see the flaws, it just makes the fall from grace that much harder. But I think he’s still at an age where people kind of expect him to be doing those sorts of things.”
That’s why Bieber should seize this scandal to redefine his image, as he continues to transition from teen hearthrob to adult artist. “I don’t think fans are upset about who you are as long as they can count on who that is,” Cost says. “At the end of the day, it’s all about authenticity. So I think this is a good lesson for him in terms of giving people a little more insight into who he is and not necessarily perpetuating the all-American image.”
Now it all lies in how the Bieber camp chooses to tackle the controversy. “Every individual is responsible for their own actions, but when you live in the spotlight, you are expected to serve as an example,” explains Jones. “It’s just part of the entire package of fame.”
That means headline-hitting marijuana photos require a public response. “He just needs to be real, and matter of factly address the issue, and make it understood that he realizes his actions have deep impact upon his younger fan base,” Jones adds. “If Bieber handles this situation correctly and addresses the public, acknowledging that his actions influence others, his fans and their parents will come to understand and remember that Bieber is simply human and growing up.”
Though his team has yet to issue a statement as the scandal unravels, Bieber diverted attention away from the marijuana madness with a bit of good will. Just days after the incriminating photos were published, the pop star surprised seven-year-old cancer patient Millie Flamm at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, with a private concert. He even shared snaps of the visit on Twitter.
“That was absolutely a savvy PR move,” reveals pop culture expert Jo Piazza, author of Celebrity, Inc.: How Famous People Make Money. “He was trying to replace the marijuana pictures with the pictures of him with this leukemia patient. We know that celebrities don’t do anything without a motive. And there was absolutely a motive behind him visiting this cancer patient. He was hoping to alleviate some of the damage that he did to his brand.”
Now as the best-selling, award-winning pop star continues to mature, Bieber’s team should steer him away from the path of former child stars like Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes and Miley Cyrus, who all spiraled out of control as they came of age in the spotlight.
“If he wants to elevate his brand to a more adult level, this isn’t the way to do it,” explains Piazza. ”He should be following the Justin Timberlake business model, which is just do good, adult work, instead of following the Miley Cyrus business model, which is go wild, use drugs, get tattoos. Because we’ve seen that Miley Cyrus model doesn’t seem to be working, and we know that Justin Timberlake worked.”
Still, fans should not expect flawlessness from Bieber — when the cameras stop rolling, when the music stops playing, when the screen dim to black, all celebrities are still just human. “He is growing up…and messing up here and there. And he probably will again, as the paparazzi have eagle eyes and keep him in their eyesight at all times,” says Jones. “Just because someone is a star, does not mean that they are going to be perfect by any means. Perhaps a small fall from grace will actually be a great learning lesson for both Bieber and his fans.”

As you may have seen, Beliebers have been posting graphic images on Twitter of alleged self-inflicted wounds in an attempt to get Justin to stop smoking pot, using the hashtag #cut4bieber. In regards to the trending topic, Teen.com readers responded on our Facebook page; Miley Cyrus, who defended Justin Bieber after a paparazzo died chasing his car last week, took to her personal Twitter to (somewhat) voice her opinion on the matter.
She retweeted (original from @OfficialCANCER): “#cutforbieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about. There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful.” So far, Bieber’s camp has not yet released a comment on the subject.
At least there’s Miley though, right? And that’s not all she’s tweeting about. Late last night, she teased “guesssss where iiiii am???” along with the photo you see below. Looks like she’s back in the recording studio, folks.
What are your thoughts about #cut4bieber? Do you think Justin should respond? What do you think of Miley’s (retweeted) comment? Share your thoughts with us below!
