2012 Year in Review: The 20 Biggest Weddings, Breakups and Makeups

Just like the rest of the world, love makes the Hollywood go round.

This year had no shortage of romance among the stars. From Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel saying “I do” under the stars in Southern Italy, to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively secretly getting hitched on a sprawling Southern plantation, many buzzed-about celebrity couples found their happily-ever-after in 2012.

Even some of the industry’s most beloved golden girls turned bridal. Natalie Portman tied the knot with her Benjamin Millepied in a traditional Jewish ceremony in Big Sur, Calif., where Anne Hathaway also walked down the aisle at sunset to wed Adam Shulman.

Drew Barrymore vowed for forever with Will Kopleman at her Montecito, Calif. estate, while Carey Mulligan took the plunge with Mumford & Sons musician Marcus Mumford in the countryside of Somerset, England.

But wedded bliss didn’t bless everyone, with many longtime lovers calling it quits in 2012. After almost seven years of marriage, Heidi Klum and Seal announced their separation in January before officially filing for divorce three months later.

Parting ways after five wedded years, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes — long labeled Tomkat — reached a surprisingly speedy divorce settlement after just 11 days in July, with the actress receiving primary custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Suri.

But not all of Hollywood’s bitter breakups stuck. Back in July, Kristen Stewart was infamously snapped smooching her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, seemingly ruining her three-year relationship with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. But Twihard broken hearts were soon on the mend, as Stewart and Pattinson were spotted canoodling in Los Angeles, Calif., in October.

Now, as the countdown begins to 2013, look back at this year’s biggest weddings, breakups and makeups.

Which wedding took the cake? What split was most shocking? And which makeups were meant to be? Share your thoughts in comments below.

‘The X Factor’ Host Mario Lopez on Taylor Swift and Harry Styles Dating: ‘Taylor’s Done Quite Well For Herself’ (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW)

Mario Lopez may have found his happily ever after when he wed actress Courtney Mazza in Mexico Dec. 1, but what does he think of the newest Hollywood couple to hit the scene: Taylor Swift and One Direction‘s Harry Styles?

“She’s a sweet girl… and he’s a nice guy too,” he told Celebuzz. “You know, they’re nice!”

Lopez, 39, was the first to spill the beans that the pop sensations were dating when he confirmed that the two were spotted hanging out backstage at FOX’s The X Factor.

At the time, the 22-year-old country crooner was performing, while Styles, 18, waited in the wings for his gal pal.

“Taylor Swift was the special guest performer and here’s a little inside scoop for you,” Lopez said on his radio show the day after the star sighting.

“During rehearsals, Harry from One Direction came and slapped me on the back, and said, ‘Hey Mario, how you doing?’ And I said, ‘What are you doing here?’ And he sort of points towards Taylor, and I said, ‘Oh! Good for you! And then I see the two walking off hand-in-hand,” he continued.

Since then, the couple has been spotted showing some major PDA in New York City — even holding hands during a karaoke date after One Direction’s sold out Madison Square Garden concert.

So does Lopez approve of the newest celebrity coupling that’s been dubbed “Haylor” by fans?

“Listen, Taylor’s done quite well for herself,” he told us. “She’s a good girl and she carries herself like a little lady.”

“I’ve gotten to know her and her mom a little bit and she should do whatever she should,” he continued. “The young girl has the world in her hands and she should do whatever she wants to do.

“I would, if I was her!”

‘X Factor’ Host Mario Lopez on Working With Khloe Kardashian: She’s ‘A Sweetheart,’ He Says

With one week of live shows under his belt, Mario Lopez says he’s enjoying all the perks of being on The X Factor, especially working alongside his co-host, Khloe Kardashian.

“I love Khloe,” Lopez told Celebuzz on Thursday. “Khloe’s a sweetheart. We get along great. I think she’s doing a great job and we’re having a lot of fun up there.”

And her sense of humor keeps Lopez constantly giggling.

“She’s just funny,” he raved. “We’re just constantly laughing, having fun and messing with each other. We both only had, like, 45 minutes to get ready [last night] — which is nothing for a girl, obviously. I was trying to convince her to do the show in her curlers. I was giving her a hard time, but I was impressed she got ready in time.”

As the rest of his experience, Lopez says he’s “just excited to be part of the team.”

“I just know they’re going to keep raising the stakes every week,” he said. “The productions are awesome. The dancers and everything. I’m hoping they let me come out when they introduce and they let me do a dance number. I was talking to Brian Friedman the choreographer and they do it in the UK so we’ll see.”

“I’m just interested to see who it comes down to in the end,” he said.
