Madonna’s Brother Says Lady Gaga Should Copy Her More

Madonna‘s brother Christopher Ciccone is all about reductive fashion! Ciccone, who is his sister’s former artistic director, says that Lady Gaga would be best served by copying his sister’s sense of style more. Say what? Turns out Ciccone thinks copying the Material Girl would make Ma Monster more accessible to her fans.

Madge’s little brother designed the stages for some of her most memorable tours, like Blonde Ambition and the Girlie Show. They eventually fell out and he wrote a tell-all, so it’s not like Ciccone is all, like, the cap’n of Team Madge in the epic battle between these two pop divas.

Since he has made a living in the style biz and now designs shoes, Ciccone offered his tips on what Gaga can do differently, which she can of course take or leave. Madge probably isn’t thrilled about that, since she constantly talks crap about Gaga biting off her.

“What I would do with Gaga is stream it all down and get rid of all the crap and make her a real person,” he boldly said. “It’s cool on some level, but when you start out massively way over the top, there is nowhere to go. You get stuck there and you disconnect from the audience. You become this freak on the stage.”

What he is ignoring, though, is Gaga’s embrace of fame as art, and being on a whole other level with fame is what makes her the biggest pop star of her time.

However, Ciccone also pointed out that Madonna’s style has endured for a critical reason – her fans could copy her looks easily by shopping at the mall. It’s not like little monsters can head over to Hot Topic to grab a meat dress or 10-inch stripper platforms.

“You have to remember what really made Madonna really popular is that girls could dress like her,” he pointed out. “You can’t dress like Gaga, only on Halloween perhaps. It’s a really big part of being a performer, getting your fans to follow you. You have to evolve. At one point with Madonna, it was time for the tights to go.”

Gaga isn’t the only person whose style he assessed. He has his eye on Kelly Clarkson, simply because he thinks she has no style.

“I would love to overhaul Kelly Clarkson,” he said. “I would certainly give her a style. She needs something. The girl’s got an amazing voice; it’s just the girl comes onstage dowdy and there is no particular look to her. She could do so much better.”

Thank you very much, Christopher Ciccone.

‘Showbiz Tonight’ and Celebuzz Countdown The Top 5 Buzzmakers of the Year (VIDEO)

As 2012 comes to an end, Showbiz Tonight’s AJ Hammer looks back at the top 5 buzzmakers of the year, exclusively for Celebuzz.

#5– Taylor Swift – The country/pop singer returned to musical chart dominance with her hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” And, her chief songwriting inspiration – relationships – kept her in the tabloids all year, especially her summer flings with Connor Kennedy and One Direction’s Harry Styles.

#4 – Madonna vs Lady Gaga – The feud between the two divas reached a fever pitch this year as Gaga was continually accused of being a Madonna copycat. Madonna called Gaga’s music ‘reductive’ while Gaga not-so-subtly criticized Madonna on stage.

#3 – Nicki Minaj – She made headlines for becoming a judge on American Idol, but it was her feud with fellow Idol judge, Mariah Carey, that had everyone buzzing this year. Nicki claimed Mariah didn’t want another female judge on the show and Mariah alleged that Nicki threatened to shoot her. It’s going to be an interesting season, the show premieres on FOX on Jan. 16.

#2 – Lindsay Lohan – 2012 marked the return of Lindsay Lohan as an actress, at least on the small screen. She landed the role, and later bombed it, as Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz & Dick, but her biggest feat of the year was being charged with four crimes on two coasts on the same day.

#1 – Rihanna & Chris Brown – The couple reunited three years after Chris put Rihanna in the hospital after a nasty argument. Despite being criticized by everyone around the world, the two flaunted their rekindled romance in 2012.

Tune in to Showbiz Tonight Mon. – Thurs. at 11pm ET/PT on HLN. And be sure to check back every week for AJ Hammer’s countdown of the top 5 buzzmakers right here on Celebuzz.

Madonna Attacked by ‘Sex and the City’ Stylist for Stealing Merchandise Designs

Taylor Hill, Getty Imaages

Is Madonna a thief? That claim comes from staffers for Patricia Field, a former costume designer for ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘Ugly Betty.’ They charge that black “VOGUE” caps Madonna sold at her recent New York City concerts are reproductions of the ones Field has been selling.

A Tumblr post credited to Andy, one of Field’s employees, says that a Field designer came up with the cap design that Madonna stole. He wrote, “She is selling exact replicas of our VOGUE hat as part of her tour merchandise!!!!… Our own Patricia Field stylist, Hiraku, designed the snap back and we sell it as a t-shirt, headband and a beanie as well. They’ve been going like hotcakes here at the store and have become a staple of the Patricia Field brand this year.”

He added, “I don’t really have anything else to say but… Madonna is a thief! Do you really need an extra few thousand dollars? Shame, shame for stealing from those that inspire you!”

The fact that Madonna is now being accused of stealing another artist’s ideas is ironic, given that Madge mocked Lady Gaga every night on the MDNA Tour by performing a medley of ‘Express Yourself’ and ‘Born This Way,’ a not-so-subtle statement that she believes Gaga ripped off the melody from her hit song.

But this could be much ado about nothing, as some Madonna fans have pointed out that her dancers wore similar hats on stage back in 1990 when ‘Vogue’ first became a hit, years before Patricia Field released its hats. We’ll wait to see if Madonna cares to weigh in on the dispute.

Top 10 Best Pop Christmas Songs: What’s Your Favorite Festive Tune?

No holiday season would be complete without Christmas tunes.

Whether you’re trimming the tree by a fireplace or shopping for last-minute presents, there’s nothing quite like a melody to make your holiday more merry and bright.

Though the perennial old-time tunes are forever classics, it’s easy to grow weary of little drummer boys, roasting chestnuts and Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. But beyond the traditional Christmastime mainstays, there’s plenty of pop holiday cheer to be heard.

From Madonna‘s “Santa Baby,” to Justin Bieber‘s “Mistletoe,” to Michael Bublé‘s “I’ll Be Home For Christmas,” there’s a swarm of pop stars who have recreated classics and recorded new chart-blazing Christmas melodies.

Though it was released almost two decades ago, Mariah Carey‘s 1994 hit “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached the top 40 for the first time on the Billboard Hot 100 (it was previously ineligible on the chart because it was not available as a commercial single). And it seems ’tis the season for Carey, as her classic even topped Billboard’s inaugural Hot 100-style ranking of seasonal favorites.

What other singers have left their mark on the merry season with a festive hit? Celebuzz has rounded up 10 top Christmas songs. Click through the gallery, and then weigh in below on which tune tops your holiday season playlist.

Madonna Threatens to Cancel Show Due to Fans Smoking

Taylor Hill, Getty Images

Madonna‘s MDNA tour is the highest-grossing trek of 2012, so she can pretty much threaten her fans — who plunked down hard-earned cash on a ticket — and get away with it.

Madge did just that during her soundcheck at Estadio Nacional in Santiago City, Chile on Dec. 19. The Material Girl threatened to cancel her concert after becoming irritated by a group of fans who were smoking.

Madge was rehearsing in the rain when she caught a whiff and lashed out. Apparently, the fumes bother her throat and her voice.

“There are people smoking right now,” Madge said, sounding like a stern mother scolding her child — more on that in a sec!

Madonna continued, “No smoking. If you’re going to smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show. You don’t care about me, I don’t care about you. All right? Are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding. I can’t sing if you smoke. If you love me, then don’t smoke.”

Uh, how about if they love themselves, they don’t smoke? Madge engaged in full-fledged emotional blackmail with her concertgoers.

Madge is serious about her anti-smoking policies on many levels. Even though she is seen smoking in her video for ‘Girl Gone Wild,’ she claims that she does not condone or endorse the dirty habit. She also was not psyched when her teenage daughter Lourdes was caught puffing away.

Take note of the memo, Madonna fans. Either don’t smoke anywhere near her or if you choose to, gird your loins and prepare to face her wrath.

Madonna Scolds Fan for Smoking in Chile: ‘You Don’t Care About Me, I Don’t Care About You’ (VIDEO)

It seems Madonna isn’t too fond of cigarette smoke.

During a soundcheck for her MDMA world tour in Santiago, Chile, the Queen of Pop scolded fans after she caught a few concertgoers smoking.

“There’s people smoking right now,” she told the crowd, before chastising the offenders. “No smoking!… If you’re going to smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show.”

The singer’s ultimatum didn’t go over well with the concertgoers, who had waited in the rain during the soundcheck — but Madge didn’t seem to care. “You don’t care about me, I don’t care about you,” she said.

The upset 54-year-old performer added: “Are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding! I can’t sing if you smoke. Entiendes? If you love me, then don’t smoke.”

But the damage was already done. Madonna’s show was delayed by more than two hours Wednesday night. Fans were reportedly so disappointed with the show, entire sections started chanting Lady Gaga’s name.

This is just the latest in Madonna’s long string of controversial moments from her MDNA tour. She raised eyebrows after pretending to shoot down a masked gunman during an on-stage stunt in Denver, Colo., just miles from where the mass Dark Knight theater shootings occurred this summer. And in Paris, Madge drew disfavor for displaying a swastika on a politician’s forehead.

But all of Madge’s shocking moments seem to be doing the trick. Her MDNA tour is the high-grossing tourof 2012, earning an estimated $228.4 million in ticking sales.

What do you think of Madonna’s latest stunt? Was she out of line? Sound off in the comments!

Madonna Had Top-Grossing Tour of 2012

Taylor Hill, Getty Images

Madonna had by far the highest-earning concert tour in 2012, raking in more than $228 million from 72 live concerts, according to figures reported by Billboard. The Material Girl’s earnings were far ahead of second-place finisher Bruce Springsteen, while Coldplay, Lady Gaga, and the Jay-ZKanye West joint tour all placed in the Top 10.

Even though her album ‘MDNA’ only produced one hit, all of Madge’s concerts on the MDNA Tour sold out, helping her earn more than $3 million per show. She performed in front of 1.63 million fans on the tour to outpace veteran rock acts Springsteen and Roger Waters, who rounded out the top three.

The Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil tour ranked fourth with $147 million, just ahead of Coldplay, who also earned $147 million from 67 shows on their extensive Mylo Xyloto Tour. The Brit rockers performed for 1.8 million fans, second only to Springsteen’s 2.1 million. Despite not releasing any new music in 2012, Gaga made more than $124 million from 65 shows to rank in sixth place. Kanye and Jay-Z came in ninth with $46 million.

Justin Bieber (No. 20) and Taylor Swift (No. 24) both placed further down the list, but that’s only because they didn’t perform as many concerts as the others. Bieber earned $30 million from 29 live performances, while Swift earned $26 million from 21 shows. Both performers figure to rank much higher in 2013, when they have lengthy tours planned.

‘Hitchcock’s’ James D’Arcy Credits Madonna for His Career: ‘She Cast Me When Nobody Wanted To’

“It’s really all because of Madonna,” says James D’Arcy. “She cast me when nobody else really wanted to.” The movie the shaggy haired British actor is talking about is W.E., in which he played Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor. And he seems to be right. Since then he’s appeared in Cloud Atlas and, most recently, playing Anthony Perkins in Hitchcock, which opens in select cities this Friday.

And as for Madge, the two are good friends which seems to shock a lot of people.

“I’m good friends with most of the directors I work with,” he explained to Celebuzz. “People are only amazed because it’s Madonna, like because she’s Madonna she doesn’t have friends which is ridiculous if you start to think about it.”

D’Arcy caught Madonna’s latest show in London and is actually featured quite prominently in the concert.

“On the screens she plays four minutes of outtakes from the movie of me and Andrea rolling around on the beach while she sings ‘Masterpiece,’ her song from the film,” he says. “After the show I went to a party at her house.”

The 37-year-old actor gives a brilliant performance as Perkins in ‘Hitchcock,’ which explores the relationship between Alfred Hitchcock (Anthony Hopkins) and his influential wife Alma Reville (Helen Mirren) during the making of his 1960 horror masterpiece Psycho.

He prepared by watching interviews of Perkins done around that time.

“Perkins did share several characteristics with Norman Bates (his Psycho character). They were both shy and had a boyish quality. I don’t want to sound disrespectful but looking at a few of his other films from that time, he wasn’t the most wildly versatile actor around. He had the same mannerisms. The studios were trying to mold him into the next James Dean or Marlon Brando, which seems absurd now when you think about it.

“It’s interesting that he’s so confused with Norman Bates. He became so synonymous with the role that he was condemned by it. He had so little freedom in that people didn’t know Perkins very well. People know Norman Bates very well maybe, not Anthony Perkins.”  Although he adds, “Who’s to say what his career would have been like without Psycho?” (Indeed, Perkins went onto to play Bates another three times in three sequels to Hitchcock’s film).

D’Arcy clearly had a wonderful time working with icons like Hopkins and Mirren.

“It was a wonderful set and it all starts from the top,” he explains. “If the leading man doesn’t f..k around then no one else will. [Hopkins] is the nicest, kindest most professional man. It was just a lovely set. I mean look at the cast involved. It wasn’t an expensive movie to make. Everyone really wanted to do it.”

And which is his favorite Hitchcock movie?

“I feel like the answer is always the last one I watched,” he said. “For instance, I just saw Foreign Correspondent, a 1940 propaganda film and it was utterly mesmerizing.”

Hitchcock is open nationwide now. Watch the film’s theatrical trailer below.

Russian Lawsuits Against Madonna Dismissed

Taylor Hill, Getty Images

Madonna, that lightning rod for drama and controversy, dodged another legal bullet. The Russian lawsuits that were lodged against the Material Girl after she expressed support for St. Petersburg’s gay community by waving LGBT flags on stage, have been tossed out of court. The plaintiffs had been seeking a whopping $10.7 million in damages from Madge.

On Thursday (Nov. 22), a Russian court threw the lawsuits levied by local residents out, according to The Hollywood Reporter. So Madge had another reason to be thankful on Thanksgiving.

The nine residents were seeking nearly $11 million in damages — roughly $1.2 million a piece — after Madonna played their city last summer. They claimed they were insulted by comments Madonna made about the city’s gay community and by some of her behaviors during her Aug. 9 show. They also said they were misled by pink wrist bands that were handed out at the entrance, which were seen as a measure of support for the gay community.

The judge wasn’t buying any of it, and decided to toss the suit after reminding the suit bringers that the tickets were clearly marked “18+” and that anyone below that age was not allowed to attend the show. He also pointed out that no part of the show could be deemed offensive to anyone over the age of 18.

Why the big brouhaha over Madonna aligning herself with the homosexual community, something she has done her entire career? Well, Madonna was showing support for local gays after the city of St. Petersburg had passed a regulation that banned “propagation of homosexuality.” That’s why local fans took issue with her actions.
