Patrick Dempsey Beats Starbucks in Buying Tully’s Coffee

McDreamy is dipping his toes in the coffee business world.

On Friday, Patrick Dempsey and his company Global Baristas were approved to buy Seattle-based coffee company Tully’s, which filed for bankruptcy in October 2012.

The approval comes just days after Dempsey’s camp won an auction against coffee giant Starbucks and five other bidders. But the original victory had to be reconsidered by a judge after Starbucks’ bidding partner filed an objection, according to the Associated Press.

“I’ve been deeply humbled by the outpouring of support from the city of Seattle and am very proud to be a new business owner in this amazing city,” the Grey’s Anatomy actor said in a statement.

“We have a lot to accomplish over the next few months and years, and I am excited to now call Seattle my second home.”

Dempsey and his company will purchase Tully’s for $9.2 million.

Tully’s, which has been around since 1992, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy some three months ago, leaving the future of more than 500 employees up for grabs.

Dempsey and Global Baristas will now have full control of Tully’s 47 locations in the Seattle area. Incidentally, his hit ABC series is set in the rainy city.

“We won !!! We won !!! Thank you Seattle ! See you soon!” the actor wrote on Twitter following Friday’s victory.

“It’s 2 in the morning just got home, 15 hour work day, what a day ! This one I will never forget ! Good night,” he later added.

What do you think of Patrick Dempsey’s newest venture? Weigh in below.

Ex-Bodyguard Sues Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber sued by bodyguard

From one controversy, to another. This time, it’s a courtroom.

Fresh from being photographed smoking what looked to be marijuana, 18-year-old pop star Justin Bieber is facing a lawsuit for allegedly assaulting a former bodyguard.

Moshe Benabou, an ex-Israeli soldier, filed court papers in Los Angeles on Thursday, claiming Bieber berated him and struck him a number of times in the chest during an argument over a member of the singer’s entourage.

Benabou — the same bodyguard who was involved in an altercation with the paparazzi at Los Angeles International Airport — was fired as Bieber’s chief lieutenant on Oct. 10, last year.

“For nearly two years Mr. Benabou devoted himself completely to ensuring Mr. Bieber’s personal safety,” Benabou’s attorney, Ilan Heimanson, told Celebuzzin a statement.

“Mr. Benabou deserved, as does any employee, to be treated with respect, dignity and in accordance with the law. Unfortunately, he was not.”

Benabou is also suing Bieber for failing to $400,000 in back wages.

According to his complaint, Benabou said he worked seven days a week and up to 18 hours a day, but was told by his employers he wasn’t entitled to overtime as a salaried employee.

He is now seeking — all up — $421,261 that includes overtime pay, vacation time and damages.

But it’s the alleged physical incident that is the most sensational in the bodyguard’s suit.

In the documents, Benabou said the 18-year-old superstar was “egged on” by his entourage to launch an “abusive tirade” against him because the “Baby” singer had thought the guard had attempted to keep a member of his group away from him.

In retaliation, Benabou claims the teenage star “repeatedly punched” him in the chest.

As he walked away from the alleged incident, it’s claimed Bieber screamed, “You are fired!”

“Employers, be they Justin Beiber or Acme Corporation, hold an inherent position of power over their employees,” Heimanson added. “Regrettably, the nature of that relationship invites abuse.

“Labor laws were written for the express purpose of protecting employees from such abuses,” he added.

“Through this lawsuit, Mr. Benabou simply seeks to hold his prior employer to the prevailing legal standards — full, fair and timely payment of wages and an abuse free workplace.”

Bethenny Frankel Will Thrash-Out Peaceful Divorce, Says Famed Lawyer

Bethenny Frankel will offer her soon-to-be ex-husband Jason Hoppy a “chunk of change” to avoid a drawn out divorce battle, according to a famed legal eagle.

Raoul Felder, who has been called the ‘Duke of Divorce’, said the talk-show host and entrepreneur will also bow to Hoppy’s demands for “appropriate custody and visitation rights.”

“Bethenny Frankel is a super smart business woman,” said Felder, who over 30 years has represented such clients as Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Mike Tyson, Elizabeth Taylor, the wives of Patrick Ewing and writer Tom Clancy, as well as model Stephanie Seymour. He is not representing Frankel, 42.

In court papers filed in New York, the ex-Real Housewives of New York star sought primary physical custody of their two-year-old daughter, Bryn, as well as claiming child support and medical expenses against husband of two years, Hoppy.

But Felder said he saw nothing suspicious in Frankel’s initial move.

“There was nothing unusual here as she was claiming everything (in a bid) to protect herself,” he said.

“But things will change as the divorce progresses.”

He added, “I understand they had a pre-nuptial agreement but Bethenny Frankel is very shrewd and she will not want to run up huge attorney’s fees and court costs in a protracted divorce.

“She will try and thrash-out an amicable deal and end this marriage in a quick and clean fashion.”

Frankel — said to be worth more than $100 million — shed tears when she appeared on Ellen DeGenereson Wednesday to talk about the breakdown of her marriage.

The Bravo star admitted that being a reality star offered a false sense of her life and that she “felt like a failure” because the marriage did not work out.

“I really put it out there. I wanted the fairytale. I thought I had it,” she told the talk show host.

Hard-bitten attorney Felder did not fully buy into Frankel’s chat show tears, however.

“Look, I think the real time to cry is behind closed doors,” said the renowned attorney, whose latest book is entitled Reflections in a Mirror: Of Love, Loss, Death and Divorce.

“She was obviously unhappy in her marriage and called time on that and is now moving on the best way she can.”

“Oprah Winfrey will speak exclusively with Lance Armstrong in his first no-holds-barred interview,” the cable network said in a statement.

“Armstrong will address the alleged doping scandal, years of accusations of cheating and charges of lying about the use of performance-enhancing drugs throughout his storied cycling career.”

Lindsay Lohan’s Lawyer Heads to Courthouse Over Her Club Fight: ‘It May Be That This Case Does Not Move Forward’ (VIDEO)

Lindsay Lohan's lawyer

Lindsay Lohan did not show up in a New York court Monday for the latest round of her assault case.

The actress was not required to appear, as the New York County’s District Attorney’s Office has yet to file criminal charges or an accusatory document in connection to her altercation at a NYC nightclub in November. Lohan’s lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, was on hand at the courthouse, where he said Lohan may not have to a face a judge in the case after all.

“It has been determined that the criminal prosecution of Lindsay Lohan is not ready to proceed at this time,” he told reporters after signing paperwork on Lohan’s behalf in a private room. “It may very well be that this case does not move forward. In fact, I predicted when I had Lindsay released from the precinct that she would be totally exonerated. It’s my opinion that this case will ultimately will be declined from prosecution, but it will be several weeks before the district attorney makes that decision.”

And Heller isn’t the only person who is holding out hope for Lohan. “Ironically, a psychic fortuneteller has predicted that the year 2013 will be an extremely lucky year for Lindsay Lohan,” he added. “With her spectacular talent and great looks, I believe that all she really needs is a little bit of luck.”

Though no criminal complaint has been drawn up, the district attorney’s investigation is still ongoing.

“My office has met and communicated extensively with the New York County’s District Attorney’s Office, and we have brought some very credible evidence and testimony to their attention,” Heller explained. “We have come forward with a witness who was able to share her personal assessment and witnessing of the event that caused the arrest.”

Lohan was charged on Nov. 29 with third-degree misdemeanor assault after allegedly punching Florida fortune-teller Tiffany Ava Mitchell at Avenue, a nightclub in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood. Mitchell — who did not seek medical attention — has hired Hollywood-savvy lawyer Gloria Allred to represent her in the court case.

That same day, Lohan was charged with in connection to a June car crash on the Pacific Coast Highway. She faces three separate misdemeanors: giving false information to a police officer, obstructing or resisting a police officer in the performance of his duty, and reckless driving. Those criminal charges led judge Jane Godfrey to revoke the Liz & Dick star’s probation on Dec. 12.

Now the judge has set a hearing date for Jan. 15, when it will be decided if the embattled actress’ actions amount to a probation violation that warrants jail time. Lohan — who was on probation after pleading no contest in 2011 to charges of stealing a $2,500 necklace from an L.A.-area jeweler — faces up to 245 days behind bars, if the judge seeks maximum punishment.

Lohan’s bi-coastal legal woes are just the latest in her long-running rap sheet. Since 2005, she has been cited for car crashes, arrested for DUIs, sentences to rehabilitation stints, placed on probation, and thrown in the slammer seemingly countless times.

Put your knowledge to the test with Celebuzz‘s Lohan legal troubles trivia. Then sound off: Do you think Lohan will wind up back behind bars? Weigh in below.

White House Bans Paparazzi Images of Sasha and Malia Obama on Hawaiian Beach (EXCLUSIVE)

A paparazzo who took photographs of the daughters of President Barack Obama walking along a Hawaiian beach last week made a big mistake — at least, in the eyes of the Oval Office.

Because as soon as the images of Sasha and Malia were sent out to news outlets around the world, the photographer received an official letter from the White House telling him to immediately stop their release, Celebuzz has exclusively learned.

Ironically, the man was waiting for pregnant Hollywood star Jessica Simpson to leave her Kailua Beach retreat in Honolulu County when the Presidential sisters, vacationing with their famous parents in an adjacent property since Dec. 21, came walking-by.

“After he took the photographs, agents from the United States Secret Service came over and asked him for identification,” according to a source who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. Celebuzz has chosen not to name the photographer.

“They were nice enough to him and didn’t seize his camera equipment.

“But when he sent the photographs out via the agency’s wire, he received a letter, on a White House letterhead, requesting that the images not be released.”

The letter was from the White House Press Office, the source added.

“It stated that Sasha and Malia’s privacy should be maintained as they were on a private holiday,” the insider told Celebuzz.

“The letter said that other media had been respecting these requirements.”

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are known to be very protective of Malia, 14 and Sasha, 11, previously demanding that the media respect their privacy unless they are attending a public or pre-arranged event.

The Obamas returned to Washington on Sunday after their annual end-of-year visit to the President’s native state.

The family was staying at a 7000 sq ft rental home in the upscale Kailua area that boasts five bedrooms, a media room and a secluded lagoon style pool with tropical waterfalls and a spa.

The President — who spent eight years at Punahou School in Hawaii before he graduated — has his vacation disrupted just after Christmas when he was forced to return to the capital to help broker a solution on the fiscal cliff crisis.

He returned to Hawaii less than an hour after Congress and the White House resolved the fiscal cliff, at the eleventh hour.

Obama boarded Air Force One on Jan. 1 to return to his planned holiday vacation and later reunited with his wife and daughters, who have been vacationing there since just before Christmas.

The president began his family holiday — his first extended personal time outside of Washington since the presidential campaign.

Josh Brolin spent some of the first hours of 2013 behind bars.

According to TMZ, the 44-year-old actor was arrested for public intoxication just before midnight on Jan. 1 in Santa Monica, Calif.

Brolin was booked into jail at 3AM before paying the $250 bail for his release some four hours later.

TMZ reports that because the star was not given a citation for the arrest, he will not be required to go to court.

This isn’t the first time the True Grit actor has had legal troubles.

His most recent arrest was in 2008, when he and actor Jeffrey Wright and crew members from the George W. Bush film W. were involved in an altercation at a bar in Louisiana.

In 2004, following an argument with his wife Diane Lane, Brolin was arrested in Los Angeles on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. Lane later declined to press charges, citing the whole thing as a misunderstanding.

Brolin’s next big screen release will be the crime thriller Gangster Squad, also starring Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn and Emma Stone.

The Jodi Arias Murder Trial: Everything You Need to Know About the Case

Jodi Arias and Travis Alexander

Jodi Arias is on trial for the first-degree murder of her one-time boyfriend, Travis Alexander, who was found dead at age 30 in his shower over four years ago. Arias, who has been locked up since her arrest in July 2008, has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

“I didn’t hurt Travis. I would never hurt Travis,” Arias said in a jailhouse interview after her arrest. “I would be shaking in my boots right now if I had to answer to God for such a heinous crime.”

Since her arrest, Arias has gone from denying any involvement in the crime, implicating others, to eventually claiming she was forced to kill Alexander in self-defense after years of abuse.

But in the trial that began on Jan. 2, Arizona prosecutors are painting Arias, a 32-year-old photographer from Yreka, Calif., as a jealous ex-girlfriend who should face the death penalty for what they deem a cold-blooded murder of a good man.

If Arias is convicted of first-degree murder, she could become the fourth woman on Arizona’s death row.

Here’s a breakdown of all the need-to-know facts in the Arias murder trial.

How did Alexander and Arias meet?
Arias and Alexander came into each other’s lives at a Las Vegas work conference in September 2006. Arias says they fell in love, traveled the country together, and that she even converted to Mormonism for Alexander. But Alexander’s friends maintain that after they dated for a few months, he tried to break it off. One pal said Arias was Alexander’s stalker.

How long were Alexander and Arias dating?
Arias told authorities that she dated Alexander for just five months before splitting in June 2007, though they maintained a sexual relationship thereafter. In a conversation with a detective the day after Alexander was discovered dead, Arias described herself as a “good friend” of Alexander.

How did Alexander die?
Alexander was found dead on June 9, 2008, inside his standup shower in his locked room. Investigators determined Alexander was stabbed 27 times, had his throat slit from ear-to-ear and was shot in the head at his Mesa, Ariz.

What’s the prosecution’s case?
Prosecutors argue that this was a case of fatal attraction, in which Arias was a jealous ex-girlfriend who brutally attacked Alexander after he tried to end their relationship. “This is not a case of whodunit,” prosecutor Juan Martinez said in his opening statement. “The whodunit sits in court today.”

What’s the defense’s case?
Arias’ attorney, Jennifer Willmott, has claimed Arias was a victim of domestic violence and killed Alexander — who Willmott labeled a sexual deviant — in self-defense.

What evidence was collected from the crime scene?
After Alexander’s body was discovered, police recovered a camera from his washing machine, which contained a memory card with pictures of Alexander and Arias’ last sexual encounter, of Alexander in the shower just before his death and of accidental shots seemingly taken when the camera was dropped. One snap features Alexander’s bloody body, while another shows Arias dragging his body across the floor.

Justin Bieber Photographer Defended by Janice Dickinson (EXCLUSIVE)

The photographer who was killed while trying to take a picture of Justin Bieber’s white Ferarri has the support of at least one celebrity, amid calls for action to safeguard the lives of celebrities.

Fashion icon Janice Dickinsonherself a frequent paparazzi target – told Celebuzz she hoped “common sense will prevail” and that the 29-year-old’s death is not used to spur changes to the law.

“Photographers have always been around and they have rights too,” the model-turned-reality star said.

“People have got to realize that they are trying to make a living by getting a picture and there are no laws banning them.”

The freelance paparazzo — identified by TMZ as Chris Guerra – was struck and killed by oncoming traffic as he walked across a Los Angeles street to get back to his car after snapping photos on Jan. 1.

Guerra thought he spied Bieber sitting in his parked Ferrari, however the “Baby” singer was not in the car at the time.

“I feel sorry for the photographer’s family because somebody died,” added Dickinson.

A veteran paparazzo said on Wednesday he hoped the photographer’s death would not be used as a symbol in celebrities’ fight against paparazzi.

“What’s the difference between our guy who got killed under those circumstances and the war photographer who steps on a landmine in Afghanistan and blows himself to pieces because he wanted the photograph on the other side of road?” Frank Griffin, who co-owns the photo agency Griffin-Bauer, told the Los Angeles Times.

“The only difference is the subject matter. One is a celebrity and the other is a battle. Both young men have left behind mothers and fathers grieving and there’s no greater sadness in this world than parents who have to bury their children.”

In a statement, 18-year-old Bieber said he hoped the accident would “inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders and the photographers themselves.”

He added, “While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.”

His comments where echoed by singer Miley Cyrus, 20, who referenced the death of Britain’s Princess Diana in a 1997 car crash while being chased by paparazzi in Paris.

“Hope this paparazzi/JB accident brings on some changes in ’13 Paparazzi are dangerous! Wasn’t Princess Di enough of a wake up call?!” Cyrus tweeted.

“This was bound to happen! Your mom teaches u when your a child not to play in the street! The chaos that comes with the paparazzi acting like fools makes it impossible for anyone to make safe choices.”

Julianne Hough Reveals: ‘I Was Physically Abused as a Child’

Julianne Hough revealed a shocking detail about her childhood in the February issue of Cosmopolitan: that she was abused as a child.

While Hough was 10 years old and living in London to study dance, the Safe Haven star claims she was taken advantage of by adults around her. While attending the elite Italia Conti Academy of Arts, Hough said, “I was abused, mentally, physically, everything.”

“I was 10 years old looking like I was 28, being a very sensual dancer,” she explained.

“I was a tormented little kid who had put on this sexy façade because that was my job and my life,” she said. “But my heart was the same, and I was this innocent little girl. I wanted so much love.”

The 24-year-old added that the abuse proceeded to get worse as she got older.

“When I started hitting puberty, I started becoming a woman and stopped being a little girl,” was when things reached their pinnacle she told the mag.

Hough does not want to reveal any specifics regarding the abuse in an effort to move forward with her life.

“I’m a very forgiving person, and I don’t want to hurt anybody,” she said.

Paparazzo Killed While Following Justin Bieber’s Ferrari on New Year’s Day (VIDEO)

A photographer was killed on New Year’s Day after he was struck by another car while following Justin Bieber’s white Ferarri.

The teenage superstar was not in the sports car when it was pulled over on Getty Center Drive Tuesday evening; today, he released a statement about the incident.

“While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim,” Beiber said. “Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.”

LAPD officer James Stoughton told Celebuzz: “The photographer [a male] tried to cross the street at around 5.45pm to take a photograph of the Ferrari when he was struck and killed by another vehicle.

“Justin Bieber was not inside the Ferrari, and at present we are not releasing the name of the victim as investigations are still on-going”

It is not believed that drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident. One of Bieber’s friends was driving the Ferrari when it was pulled over.

Ironically, in November, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge threw out two criminal charges against paparazzi photographer Paul Raef after he had got involved in a high-speed chase with Bieber.

The teenage pop star was pulled over for driving recklessly on the Ventura 101 Freeway. At the time, he told authorities he was trying to get away from the paparazzi.

Raef was subsequently charged under a 2010 anti-paparazzi law aimed at cracking down on photographers who chase celebrities; however the judge threw out the two charges against him because he felt the law was “problematic.”
