Kate Winslet’s New Husband: 5 Things to Know About Ned Rocknroll

Kate Winslet has said “I do” to her boyfriend of more than a year, Ned Rocknroll. But the actress’ new husband still remains much of a mystery.

The couple tied the knot in front of family and friends during a small, secret New York ceremony in early December, Winslet’s rep confirmed to Celebuzz.

Though the wedding came as a surprise to most of the world, Winslet and Rocknroll had in fact been engaged since the summer.

So who is this British gentleman who swept the Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actress off her feet? Read on for five things to know about Winslet’s new husband.

1. He’s not Rocknroll by birth.
The businessman was born Abel Smith but legally changed his name to Ned Rocknroll.

2. He has quite the British pedigree.
Rocknroll is the nephew of Virgin Group founder Richard Branson. He currently works for Virgin Galactic, the space-travel division of the Branson empire.

3. This isn’t the first time he’s said “I do.”

Rocknroll was previously married for two years to British socialite Eliza Pearson, the daughter of a multimillionaire viscount.

4. His Hollywood debut came at the Globes.
Though they were first spotted together in fall 2011, Rocknroll was still technically married to Cowdray. But after the exes finalized their divorce in October 2011, Winslet and her new man made their red carpet debut until the 2012 Golden Globes.

5. It seems a fire ignited their love flame.
Rocknroll was vacationing alongside Winslet, her kids and her ex-beau, model Louis Dowler, on the Branson-owned Necker Island in the Caribbean when a fire broke out and Winslet rescued Branson’s 90-year-old mother. According to the Daily Mail, it was Rocknroll, not Dowler, who accompanied Winslet on her trip back to New York after leaving the island.

Kate Winslet, Ned Rocknroll Married: 8 Secret Hollywood Weddings (PHOTOS)

Given the fast-paced, round-the-clock world we live in, it’s always surprising when a high-profile Hollywood celebrity manages to pull off a secret wedding.

Oscar-winning beauty Kate Winslet did just that when she married longtime beau Ned Rocknroll earlier this month in New York. (According to reports, not even the couple’s parents knew about the ceremony. In fact, Winslet’s Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio gave her away, instead.)

In fact, many celebrities tied the knot this year without all of the magazine covers and media hoopla to prove it.

Pulling a similar move in September were Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, whose intimate South Carolina nuptials were so low-key, the couple still hasn’t really addressed the ceremony to the media.

Which other stars have managed to marry in secret?

Get your jaws ready to drop, because Celebuzz has pulled together the eight most-memorable private ceremonies.

It’s wedding bells for Kate Winslet!

A spokesperson for Winslet confirms to Celebuzz that the actress has said “I do” to her beau of more than a year, Ned Rocknroll. The couple tied the knot in front of her two children, their family and friends during a small, private New York ceremony in early December, The wedding was first reported by Us Weekly,

After first being linked back in Fall 2011, Winslet, 37, and Rocknroll, 34, shacked up together in September, purchasing a 15th-century-style home in West Sussex, England.

The wedding marks Winslet’s third time down the aisle. The Academy Award-winning actress was married to English director Jim Threapleton from 1998 to 2001, a marriage that resulted in her daughter, Mia, now 12. Winslet went on to tie the knot with American Beauty helmer Sam Mendes in 2003, but that union ended in 2010. The exes share a son, Joe, 9.

The rep said:

I can confirm that Kate Winslet married Ned Rock’nRoll in NY earlier this month in a private ceremony attended by her two children and a very few friends and family. The couple had been engaged since the summer.

Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Kate Winslet: 15 Stars Who Were Told to Lose Weight (PHOTOS)

A-listers like Lady Gaga may be happy with their bodies, but some people in Hollywood weren’t too thrilled with their curves.

In September, Fashion Police star Kelly Osbourne said she thought Gaga, 26, was with child when she flaunted a fuller figure during a European concert. “I think she is pregnant because she has been covering up this part of her body recently, and I have been noticing that a lot,”  Osbourne told British talk show host Alan Carr in an interview. “And her style has changed, and you can’t bleach your hair blonde when you are pregnant.”

Gaga — who is actually not expecting — quickly responded to her naysayers with a “body revolution,” refusing to drop the pounds.

Apart from writing about her weight struggles on her personal social networking site, Little Monsters, Gaga also went on the air to open about about her 25-pound weight gain.

“I really don’t feel bad about it, not even for a second,” she told Sirius Radio’s Elvis Duran show. “I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It’s hard because it’s a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don’t like that.”

“I’m a New York Italian girl. That’s why I have been staying out of New York,” she added. “My father [Joe Germanotta] opened a restaurant. It’s so amazing … it’s so freaking delicious, but I’m telling you I gain five pounds every time I go in there. So my dad wants me to eat at the restaurant, and I’m, like, I’ve got to go where I can drink green juice.”

Now — amidst reports that her record company has demanded she slim down — the “Born This Way” singer is on a diet to get rid of the excess weight. “I’m trying to find a new balance,” she said.

Likewise, other big-names like Christina Aguilera and Kate Winslet have also face weight woes — and been told to slim down by detractors.

Kate Winslet’s 37th Birthday: Her 10 Best Red Carpet Looks (GALLERY)

Kate Winslet turns 37 today, and Celebuzz is celebrating by taking a look back at the Oscar-winning beauty’s best moments on the red carpet.

After bursting onto the screen in the 1994 psychological drama Heavenly Creatures and the 1995 literary romantic comedy Sense and Sensibility, Winslet quickly became one of the most stylish women in Hollywood.

This was especially true at the 2002 Oscars, when she stole the show in a red floral dress by little-known designer Ben de Lisi.

From there, Winslet continued to wow on the red carpet, donning looks that defined her grace, elegance and style.

But it was in 2011 when Winslet truly knocked it out of the park, mixing looks that were both timeless and modern as she promoted the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce.

In honor of Winslet’s big 3-7, Celebuzz is counting down her 10 best red carpet looks. Check them out in the gallery, above.

Hayden Panettiere Admits Suffering From Body Dysmorphia: 12 Celebrities Who’ve Survived Body Issues (GALLERY)

Despite being one of Hollywood’s hottest young stars, Hayden Panettiere has revealed she suffered from body dysmorphia as a teenager.

The 23-year-old Nashville beauty opened up to Women’s Health magazine about her struggles which stemmed from an article pointing out her so-called cellulite.

While she is now happy with her figure and has put the negative press behind her, she is not the only celebrity who has battled body demons.

So who else was once obsessed with their form?

Just like Panettiere, British star Lily Allen opened up about her own Body Dysmorphic Disorder – a psychological disorder where the affected person becomes obsessed with a perceived defect of their body – back in 2010.

Before her revelation to Q Magazine in which she called herself “funny looking’”, Allen unleashed a self-loathing rant on her blog about her appearance.

She has since ended her singing career, stepped out of the spotlight and is happily married with one child and pregnant with her second.

Sarah Michelle-Gellar, 35, and Uma Thurman, 42, claimed to have suffered from BDD too.

With curves like Shakiras it’s hard to believe the 35-year-old had to seek help from a therapist to get over her body image issues. But the Colombian beauty told Fabulous magazine she spent years worrying about what she looked like.

“I wished I was taller, had longer legs, slimmer hips, a smaller bottom, even straighter hair,” she said. “I’m just like all women – we’re born to criticize ourselves.”

Demi Lovato, 20, has made no secret of her suffering and even had a blog on Seventeen magazine’s website called “My Battle With Eating Disorders”.

She entered rehab in 2010 to face her demons and now claims to be on the road to recovery.

Jessica Simpson is usually the one in the weight watch spotlight, but it was her sister, Ashlee, who had an eating disorder during her pre-teens.

While many celebrities have overcome their body addictions or dependencies, for some it was so bad it almost destroyed their lives.

Jamie Lynn-Sigler’s exercise bulimia almost killed her. When she was just 16-years-old – having just landed the role of Meadow in The Sopranos – she dropped to 80lbs after months of purging on exercise.

The 31-year-old sought help and has been a spokeswoman for the National Eating Disorders Association for years.

For other celebrities with body issues, including Calista Flockhart, Lucy Hale and Portia de Rossi check out the Celebuzz gallery above.
