2012 Year in Review: The 20 Biggest Weddings, Breakups and Makeups

Just like the rest of the world, love makes the Hollywood go round.

This year had no shortage of romance among the stars. From Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel saying “I do” under the stars in Southern Italy, to Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively secretly getting hitched on a sprawling Southern plantation, many buzzed-about celebrity couples found their happily-ever-after in 2012.

Even some of the industry’s most beloved golden girls turned bridal. Natalie Portman tied the knot with her Benjamin Millepied in a traditional Jewish ceremony in Big Sur, Calif., where Anne Hathaway also walked down the aisle at sunset to wed Adam Shulman.

Drew Barrymore vowed for forever with Will Kopleman at her Montecito, Calif. estate, while Carey Mulligan took the plunge with Mumford & Sons musician Marcus Mumford in the countryside of Somerset, England.

But wedded bliss didn’t bless everyone, with many longtime lovers calling it quits in 2012. After almost seven years of marriage, Heidi Klum and Seal announced their separation in January before officially filing for divorce three months later.

Parting ways after five wedded years, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes — long labeled Tomkat — reached a surprisingly speedy divorce settlement after just 11 days in July, with the actress receiving primary custody of the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Suri.

But not all of Hollywood’s bitter breakups stuck. Back in July, Kristen Stewart was infamously snapped smooching her married Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, seemingly ruining her three-year relationship with Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson. But Twihard broken hearts were soon on the mend, as Stewart and Pattinson were spotted canoodling in Los Angeles, Calif., in October.

Now, as the countdown begins to 2013, look back at this year’s biggest weddings, breakups and makeups.

Which wedding took the cake? What split was most shocking? And which makeups were meant to be? Share your thoughts in comments below.

Wally Pfister, the guy who shot Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, has enlisted Johnny Depp to star in his top-secret directorial debut, Transcendence. Plot details have been kept insanely close to the vest on the project, until now…

In a recent interview, Transcendence producer Andrew Kosove revealed that the story “involves a scientist (Depp) whose brain gets uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself.” Nanotechnology and artificial intelligence is also involved. Depp’s casting is expected to attract an impressive ensemble, so Celebuzz will keep you posted. [The Wrap]

‘Lone Ranger’ Trailer

Earlier today we finally got to see the first official trailer for Man of Steel, which is sure to be one of summer 2013′s biggest blockbusters, and now we’re getting a look at yet another highly-anticipated summer flick! This time around, Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer are taking on the wild west in The Lone Ranger. Based on the popular television show of the same name that ran from 1949 to 1957, Johnny plays a Native American spirit warrior named Tonto who encounters a man named John Reid, played by Armie, and the duo start fighting for justice. Oh, and they manage to get themselves into some pretty interesting (and deadly!) situations. Directed by Gore Verbinski (who worked with Johnny on Pirates of the Caribbean), Lone Ranger also stars Helena Bonham Carter, and hits theaters on July 3, 2013. Watch the trailer above!

Johnny Depp Scores People’s Choice Awards Nomination!

‘The Lone Ranger’ Trailer: Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer Fight for Justice (VIDEO)

A new trailer for Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger has been released — and this one gives viewers some insight into the friendship between Johnny Depp’s Tonto and Armie Hammer‘s masked ranger.

Depp has played everything from dirty pirates and clueless vampires to eccentric chocolatiers and mad hatters, but in Lone Ranger he’ll step into the iconic role of Tonto, the Native American companion to Hammer’s ex-Texas Ranger. As the trailer explains, it’s Tonto who encourages the ranger to fight for justice.

There come a time when good men must wear mask,” Depp, as Tonto, says.

Based on the popular radio show-turned-television program from the 1950s, Lone Ranger follows the dynamic duo as they fight for justice in the Old West.

“What was exciting for me was to play the classic character of Tonto,” Depp said during an interview at CinemaCon 2012. “To take that shape, let’s say, and mess around with it… It is a very rock ‘n’ roll  version of The Lone Ranger. It’s very fast-paced. It’s high-velocity, and it’s also quite funny.”

The film is set to hit theaters on July 3, 2013. Lone Ranger also stars Depp’s frequent on-screen partner Helena Bonham Carter as Red.

Because 2010′s live-action Alice in Wonderland grossed over a billion at the worldwide box office, it’s no surprise that Disney is developing a sequel. Woolverton also wrote the original film, as well as Disney’s Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as the live-action version of Sleeping Beauty‘s evil queen. No word yet on the sequel’s plot, but Celebuzz will keep you posted. [Variety]

There’s a bit of a casting shake-up on The Muppets 2Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) is out and Ty Burrell is in. The Modern Family star will take over for Waltz as an Interpol agent in the Europe-set sequel, which will be directed by The Muppets’ original helmer, James Bobin. The Muppets 2 is scheduled for release December 20, 2013. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Fox’s reboot of Marvel’s The Fantastic Four has set a release date: March 6, 2015. Directed by Chronicle’s Josh Trank, the much-anticipated reboot joins a crowded 2015 release schedule, as The Avengers 2, Justice League and Star Wars: Episode VII are expected to open that year.  [Exhibitor Relations]

Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Jake Gyllenhaal: Movember’s Hottest Celebrity Moustaches (GALLERY)

Movember may be winding down, but don’t expect the moustache craze to end anytime soon: a slew of Hollywood’s leading men, from doting dads Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt to eligible bachelors Ryan Gosling and Colin Farrellhave all sprouted staches.

And they’re not just doing it for Movember, aka the month of November when many guys grow moustaches to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer.

Not that it isn’t an excellent idea — the men who purposely sport staches in Movember (or Mo Bros, as they’re commonly called) solicit donations from sponsors during the “growing” process. Movember, in combination with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG, then uses the funds to support awareness and education, survivorship and research.

In honor of Movember, Celebuzz has compiled a gallery of male celebrities with the sexiest staches. Take a peek at the hottest celeb mustaches in the gallery — above and let us know your favorite mustache man by leaving a comment below.

Jared Leto, Johnny Depp, Guy Pearce, Cillian Murphy: Who Does Drag the Best? (GALLERY & POLL)

Heartthrob rocker and actor Jared Leto was almost unrecognizable when he stepped out in high heels, a short black skirt and fur jacket this week to play a transvestite in his new movie The Dallas Buyers Club, co-starring Matthew McConaughey.

And just like a whole list of hunky actors before him, Leto was willing to do anything for his art by morphing into the opposite sex in order to fulfill a gender-bending role.

Fellow pin-up male stars, including Cillian Murphy in PeacockJohnny Depp in Before Night Falls and Guy Pearce in The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of The Desert have all also been waxed, padded and made-up to look like the opposite sex for previous roles.

So who do you think looks better in drag? Cast your vote and let us know.

Channing Tatum, Ryan Reynolds, Sean Connery, Nick Nolte and More: The Complete History of People Magazine’s ‘Sexiest Men Alive’ (GALLERY)

Channing Tatum, 2012′s “Sexiest Man Alive” as chosen by People magazine, is in exceptionally good company.

The 32-year-old joins the ranks of some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including his Magic Mike co-star Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Tom Cruise and Jude Law.

And then there are the record holders: two-time winners George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp.

In honor of Tatum’s newest title, Celebuzz is taking a look back at People’s roster of Sexiest Men Alive, dating back to its first winner in 1985, when the publication chose Mel Gibson as the sexiest of them all.

Over the years, the magazine has made some surprising choices for its annual title (Nick Nolte in 1992), while spreading its demographic (Sean Connery, who received the honor at 59 years old in 1989) and teasing Ryan Gosling fans since the actor made his mark with The Notebook some years back. Despite protest from his fans, Gosling still hasn’t been christened “sexiest” by People.

In 1993, the magazine temporarily replaced its “Sexiest Man Alive” award with the “Sexiest Couple Alive,” crowning then-lovebirds Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere.

To date, the youngest winner remains the late John F. Kennedy, Jr., who was crowned sexiest at 27 years old in 1988.

One Direction and Johnny Depp Jam at His House, Plus Morgan Spurlock Will Helm 1D’s 3D Movie

Johnny Depp might be the best dad ever.

The A-lister invited British sensations One Direction to his Hollywood home to meet his super-fan daughter Lily-Rose earlier this week. Depp then treated One Direction to a jam session in his home studio.

The lads — Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne — were reportedly thrilled when they got the chance to jam with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.

A source told British newspaper The Sun, “Johnny found out One Direction were in town and, after making a few calls, they came round to his studio. He brought out his piano and guitars for the boys to test and they had a little jam session.”

“Lily-Rose just watched with her blushing mates while her dad temporarily joined the world’s biggest boy-band,” said the source.

One Direction recently announced their plans to release a 3D concert film in August 2013. Now, the film has found it’s director in Super Size Me mastermind, Morgan Spurlock.

“I’m delighted we’re making this film and Morgan is the perfect person to give that access-all-areas, behind-the-scenes look into what it’s like to be One Direction today,” Simon Cowell said in a statement. (In addition to bringing 1D to the world via his show The X Factor, Cowell is also a co-producer of the 1D-in-3D film.) ”What the band have achieved is incredible, they and their fans have made history around the world — this is for them,” Cowell said.

Spurlock added, “This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band. To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of.”

Look for One Direction’s 3D concert film to hit theaters August 30, 2013.
