10 Celebrity Beauty Queens (You’ll Never Guess Who Got Their Start in Pageants!)

What do Honey Boo Boo and Diane Sawyer have in common? An interest in foreign policy? A passion for eating “Sketti?” Nope. It’s beauty pageants!

That’s right. The seasoned journalist was a tiara-toting beauty queen in her younger years. While it’s not likely that Sawyer spent her childhood swigging Go-Go juice like Boo Boo, she did earn the title of America’s Junior Miss in 1963.

But Junior Miss Sawyer is not alone.

In honor of the Miss America Pageant, which airs tonight, we’ve rounded up the surprising stars that used to work the pageant circuit before they were famous.

Sure, you probably know about Vanessa Williams, but a major male heartthrob? An Oscar-winning actress? Yep, at one point these big-time celebs were all about the pageantry glitz.

And can you guess which beauty queen lost her crown after a nude picture scandal emerged (long before beauty queens taking off their clothes became the norm)?

Find out which stars got their start as beauty queens here.

Watch Kelly Ripa learn how to be a beauty queen in the video below.

Honey Boo Boo’s Father Is ‘Fine’ After Health Scare, Says Mama June (EXCLUSIVE)

Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson, the father of TV sensation Honey Boo Boo, is doing “fine” after a recent health scare, according to his wife, June.

“He’s fine,” June, known colloquially as “Mama June,” told Celebuzz exclusively. “He just got way too hot in the Santa suit and started feeling sick. Once he got cooled off and got fluids, he was okay.”

June was referring to an incident that took place on Dec. 8, in which paramedics were called to the Thompson’s McIntyre, GA, home after Mike, 40, fell ill during the family’s second annual Christmas toy drive.

An ambulance was subsequently called to the scene, where Thompson, dressed as Santa Claus, was checked out by paramedics.

Thompson was not taken to the hospital, according to reports.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which follows the quirky life of child beauty queen Alana Thompson, airs on TLC.

Newly-Engaged ‘Big Rich Texas’ Star Leslie Birkland Reveals Sky High Wedding Dream, Talks Honey Boo Boo (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

Big Rich Texas star Leslie Birkland has big plans for her upcoming wedding to beau Rip Mason — but it might take a bit of arm-twisting.

Birkland’s dream, it turns out, is to get married off-ground.

“The issue is that I have to convince my guy Rip to get married on an airplane,” the TV star told Celebuzz last week.

“We’ll just circle like four states and then we can say we got married in four states at one time, and then we’ll land and just have a wonderful reception.”

Birkland, who became engaged on Nov. 21, said that in planning her wedding so far, she’s far from being a bridezilla.

“I am very conservative, other than the plane and four state thing,” she joked.

Birkland, a former beauty pageant contestant and current pageant coach, also had a few words for advice for America’s most talked about pageant contestant these days: Honey Boo Boo.

“She’s definitely a natural, so she needs to go to the natural pageant, the ones where it just shows a lot of personality,” she said.

“Honey Boo Boo is having a blast. She’s having a good time, she’s actually how pageant girls should be . . . she’s just being herself, she’s not shy, she can talk in front of people, in front of the cameras. So I love what Honey Boo Boo’s doing.”

Big Rich Texas airs Sundays at 8PM ET on Style.

‘The Voice’s’ Adam Levine Disses ‘Honey Boo Boo’: ‘F*** Those Idiots’

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson may have a lot of celebrity fans, but The Voice’s Adam Levine is not one of them.

“Seriously, Honey Boo Boo is the decay of Western civilization,” the Maroon 5 frontman told GQ. ”Just because so many people watch the show doesn’t mean it’s good.”

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has been a ratings success for TLC. Over its initial 10-episode season, the series averaged 2.3 million viewers and has already been renewed for a second season. But Levine isn’t drinking Honey Boo Boo’s go-go juice.

“So many people witness atrocities and can’t take their eyes away from them, but that doesn’t mean they’re good,” he added.

“That show is literally The. Worst. Thing. That’s. Ever. Happened. It’s complete f****** ignorance and the most despicable way to treat your kids. F*** those people,” the American Horror Story: Asylum star said. “You can put that in the magazine: F*** those idiots. They’re just the worst. Sorry, I’m so sensitive to that — like, I don’t know, man, it’s upsetting. Just to clarify, I said, ‘F*** THOSE PEOPLE.’”

However, when it comes to Levine’s Hollywood peers, he seems to be in the minority. Hollywood’s hottest A-listers like Miley CyrusMiranda Lambert and Jennifer Lawrence have all dished about their Honey Boo Boo obsessions.

The Hunger Games actress Lawrence even told Jay Leno little Honey Boo Boo was to blame for her recent car accident in Georgia. Lawrence was driving when she passed a breast cancer parade that included people wearing sashes with the word “boobs” on them.

“I thought it was saying ‘Boo Boo,’ and so I was like , ‘Whoa, does that mean there’s Honey Boo Boo?” she told Leno on The Tonight Show. “So I started craning my neck and I saw a little girl, and I was like, ‘That’s Honey Boo Boo!’”

In a fit of excitement over the TLC toddler, Lawrence ended up rear-ending the car in front of her. “I’m sorry that I hit your family,” she explained. “I thought I saw Honey Boo Boo.”

Miley Cyrus Imitates Honey Boo Boo on ‘Chelsea Lately,’ Says She Can’t Wait for Her to Grow Up (VIDEO)

Miley Cyrus doesn’t just have fans, she is a fan!

The “Party in the U.S.A.” singer, 19, appeared on Chelsea Lately last night and was not shy of announcing her feelings for TLC’s breakout reality star, Honey Boo Boo.

Recalling her last appearance on the show, Cyrus gushed to host Chelsea Handler, “Since you saw me last, I put in a home theater in my house and it wasn’t quite loud enough, so we got subwoofers so I can really hear her [Honey Boo Boo] extra loud.”

She even went on to imitate the TV personality.

The fiancee of Australian actor Liam Hemsworth explained that when she hears the phrase, “Holla for a dolla,” her entire house shakes.

Noticing the resemblance in speech, Handler then asked Cyrus if that’s who she modeled her Two and a Half Men character after.

“Yeah, definitely,” Cyrus admitted.

But things got even better: Handler actually had a Honey Boo Boo surprise the pop singer, whom is making her first appearance on Two and a Half Men on Thursday 8:30 p.m. on CBS.

Honey Boo Boo and Mama June Return the Favor, Recite Christopher Walken’s Dialogue (VIDEO)

All’s fair in love, war, and self-promotion.

Last week, ScreenJunkies.com got a viral hit out of its video of Christopher Walken and other Seven Psychopaths cast members promoting their new film by giving a dramatic reading of excerpts from TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. Hearing Walken, Colin Farrell, and Sam Rockwell navigate their way through Thompson family word salad like “sketti” and “vajiggle jaggle” seemed to make the entire Internet giggle helplessly.

This week, with seven-year-old beauty pageant contestant Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her mother June Shannon visiting Los Angeles for their own media tour, ScreenJunkies decided that turnabout was fair play and persuaded the duo to read classic lines of Walken dialogue.

How did that work out?

Not too bad, considering that neither Alana nor Mama June seemed at all familiar with such timeless Walken works as Balls of Fury, Catch Me If You Can, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, or the Saturday Night Live “More Cowbell” sketch. Mama June seemed especially perplexed by where exactly was the “uncomfortable place” where Walken’s POW hid the family heirloom wristwatch. She also stumbled over some tricky dialogue, noting, “I’m not about big, fenagly words.” (ScreenJunkies subtitled hat last remark, along with many others, in the same patronizing helpful way that TLC does in order to make the Thompsons’ unique dialect more hilarious accessible.)

At any rate, mother and daughter proved good sports. And why not? They get some more publicity for their hit show, Walken’s stock as a national treasure goes up, and ScreenJunkies gets another viral hit (as does everyone else who picks up the video, including Celebuzz– we hope). It’s a win-win-win!

Does “More cowbell!” slake your fever for Honey Boo Boo, or can you still not get enough of the TLC tyke? Does she have a future as an Oscar-winning thespian? Watch the video above and weigh in below in the comments.

‘Honey Boo Boo’ Alana Thompson Endorses Barack Obama on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ (VIDEO)

Mitt Romney, you better redneckognize!

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and her mother, “Mama June” Shannon, stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday night, and the late night host couldn’t help but get political with the famous 7-year-old.

With the second presidential debate approaching on Tuesday, Kimmel asked the tiny reality star who she supports in the election — but first, not without letting her know Romney is may not be her biggest fan.

“They asked Mitt Romney if he preferred Snooki or Honey Boo Boo,” Kimmel said. “He said he preferred Snooki.”

So who did Honey Boo Boo prefer?

Kimmel then asked the aspiring “beauty queen/teacher/momma/nurse” which presidential candidate she would vote for if she were able to. Her answer was “Barack Obama.” Of course, Honey Boo Boo had no idea who Romney was.

Could this be the celebrity endorsement Obama needs to win the election? With everyone from Jay-Z and Beyonce to George Clooney and Eva Longoria on his side, chances are, Honey Boo Boo’s endorsement won’t mean much in the long-run.

Kimmel also asked the reality TV family about their overnight success — and what that means for their bank accounts. The entire family reportedly earned between $2,000 and $7,000 per episode for the hit show when it launched this summer. Mama June insisted, however, that when it comes to the family’s Hollywood income, she has her kids’ future interests at heart.

“This journey may last six months or it could last a year, but in 10 years, I don’t want Alana or any of the kids to think, ‘Oh my God. I have nothing to show for it.’ So I wanted to put [the money] in trust funds for the kids. And the other money goes to our community outreach programs, like the UR Brand that we raised for anti-bullying.”

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo airs Wednesdays at 10 PM ET on TLC.
