Just picture it: Bright lights, the hottest celebrities, rousing musical numbers, a sea of partygoers, and, of course, that big, sparkly ball. There’s no doubt that New York City has become the mecca of merriment for New Year’s festivities.
Year after year, Hollywood’s biggest names gather in the heart of Times Square to take part in the year-end revelry — that always provides for a multitude of memorable TV moments — which have viewers turning up the volume (or, in some instances, switching the channel).
Remember when Lady Gaga shared a smooch with New York’s mayor, Michael Bloomberg, after ringing in 2012? Or when sexy Jennifer Lopezturned heads in nothing but a bedazzled bodysuit as she said hello to 2010.
Prior to making headlines for all the wrong reasons, Lindsay Lohan hit a high note in 2004, performing her song “Rumors.”
And who could forget Taylor Swift joining ex-beau Joe Jonas (and his brothers Kevin and Nick) on stage in 2008 — just months after their break-up. Awkward!
Speaking of TSwift, the “Red” singer returns for another NYE performance as she headlines ABC’s New Year’s Rockin Eve special hosted by Ryan Seacrest on Dec. 31. Also joining the star-studded lineup are Carly Rae Jepsen and Neon Trees in NYC, while Brandy, Flo Rida, Karmin, One Republic, and Pitbull will hit the stage in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Jersey Shore‘s Nicole “Snooki” Polizziand Jenni “JWoww” Farley will ring in 2013 with Ke$ha, Ne-Yo and Rita Ora for MTV’s Club NYE 2013.
What’s been your favorite NYE moment ever? Sound off in the comments!

The latest way stars are spicing up their holiday style? By showing some leg in — that’s right — shorts.
Though the shorts-and-tights trend was first introduced last year, it’s making a comeback for the 2012 holiday season, offering a fresh way to show off your stems all winter long.
Beyonce, Kourtney Kardashian, and Miranda Kerr are all swapping skirts for shorts this winter, and now you can steal their tricks for styling this summer staple for colder temps.
While the floral shorts Beyonce wore in Florida recently weren’t exactly out of place in Miami, where it’s shorts’ weather year-round, the busy print and coordinating top gave the warm-weather look a more seasonal feel.
For those of us not lucky enough to spend our winters in warm climates, follow the lead of Kardashian, Kerr and recent shorts convert Jennifer Hudson, who have all been spotted in leather shorts this season. The heavier material makes the summery style a winter-appropriate look. Treat leather shorts like you would a leather mini, and pair them with shorts, heels and long-sleeves on top.
If you’re looking for something a little less edgy, try a winter-friendly material like wool or tweed. Kristin Cavallari’s metallic tweed shorts are festive and fashionable yet cold-weather appropriate. A big fan of the trend, the new mom was also spotted in a hot pink pair earlier this fall, which she winterized with a billowy long-sleeve top and heels.
The best part about Cavallari’s shorts is that they’ll work no matter where you live (or where you’re traveling for the holidays), from New York to L.A. and everywhere in between — just add tights when the temps drop below 50.

Hollywood’s hottest moms squeezed in some pre-holiday quality time with their families over the weekend. But just because they were hanging with the little ones, didn’t mean these stylish moms were slacking on their style. From cheering their kids on from the soccer field sidelines to hitting up the park and squeezing in some holiday shopping, Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, and Gwen Stefani were all about family — and fashion — this weekend.
From Reese’s sporty-prep and Jessica’s casual-cool to Gwen’s glam-grunge, vote for the weekend’s most stylish celeb mom.

The eye-catching fashions weren’t the only trends turning heads on the red carpet at this year’s American Music Awards.
From punchy pouts and notice-me-nails to bobs, waves and elegant updos, stars matched their glam gowns with equally glamorous hair and makeup.
Gwen Stefani, Carrie Underwood,Lucy Hale and Ke$ha all wore their hair down in Veronica Lake-esque waves, while Elisha Cuthbert and Heidi Klum countered their gold gowns with slicked-back updos. Bobs — faux and real — and classic updos rounded out the night’s hot hair trends.
But last night wasn’t just about the hair.
When it came to makeup, it was all about the lips. From Hayden Panettiere’s magenta lips and Stefani’s classic red to Nikki Minaj’s hot pink pout, there was plenty of bright lipstick popping against all those shimmery styles. On the other end of the spectrum, Taylor Swift, Klum, Jordan Sparks and GinniferGoodwin balanced their sparkly dresses with nude lips and natural glows.
And the night’s biggest accessory? Nails. Whether it was Ke$ha’s vampy nails countering her peachy frock, Pink’s coordinating bronze mani and dress, or Minaj’s candy-colored and glittered nails, fashionable fingernails were as much apart of stars’ looks as their metallic clutches and stilettos.
Check out all the night’s hottest beauty trends in our gallery.

The first step is investing in versatile pieces that are comfy yet chic: skinny pants, cotton tees and breezy blouses and dresses, and high-quality knits. Donning a strapless, cropped black top and baggy plaid pants, Gwen Stefani flaunted her six-pack abs and sculpted biceps as she rocked the stage on Tuesday in Paris, France — proving that motherhood is certainly not interfering with her fitness plans.
The mother of two — Kingston Rossdale and Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale — previously told Harper’s Bazaar that she gets a full cardio workout while jumping around onstage during concert performances in front of her countless screaming fans.
Stefani, 43, may even be in better shape than her previous No Doubt days.
The wife of Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale revealed, “There is no secret: you just have to eat healthy, work out, and torture yourself!”
Although Stefani claims to “hate talking” about her body all the time, she gushed about how important it is for her to cram in some much-needed gym time.
“I like to wear clothes too much, so I try to keep focused,” said Stefani, “but it’s more for my brain than it is for my body.”

Rihanna had a very good Halloween, thanks to a new honor bestowed on the “Diamonds” singer.
On Wednesday night, the 24-year-old superstar was crowned West Hollywood’s Queen of the Carnival at the Greystone Manor Supperclub. The bash was attended by a slew of famous friends including Rihanna’s ex Chris Brown, who donned a head-turning costume.
In other Halloween celebrations, Cee Lo Green was spotted hanging out with a couple of superheroes on Hollywood Boulevard. While The Voice mentor did not put on a costume, it looks like he had a few meaningful conversations with Spiderman as the Green Lantern looked on.
Continuing the Halloween spirit, Gwen Stefani was spotted with her No Doubt bandmates in London. Rocking a pair of leather pants and a pink jacket, the singer had some Halloween fun with fake blood makeup on her neck and head.
The last 24 hours have been all about the family for some celebrities.
Gwen Stefani touched down in style with her youngest son Zuma as the pair arrived at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday. The singer looked chick in a pair of pink-framed sunglasses and a leather jacket, while her 4-year-old son sported a Darth Vader outfit for Halloween.
Stateside, Alyson Hannigan held onto her adorable 3-year-old daughter Satyana, who looked ready for Halloween with her giant Minnie Mouse balloon.
Over in Sydney, Australia, former Spice Girl Mel B and her family got into the Halloween spirit. While the singer wasn’t spotted in Halloween gear, her husband Stephen Belafonte celebrated the scare fest with a bright blue wig. Their two youngest daughters, Angel Iris and Madison, wore a orange headpiece and orange tutu respectively for their trick-or-treating outing.
Outside of Halloween sightings, Lady Gaga brought her Born This Way tour to a sold out crowd in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The 26-year-old super star belted out her hits in a studded outfit as her fans screamed on.

Stefani fluctuates between being a glamazon and a fashionista, and a punk rocker, in her many mag covers. As she has been promoting No Doubt‘s ‘Push and Shove,’ she has let her rocker side rise to the surface even more. We like it when she does that.
For this mag spread, she retained her signature platinum locks, but traded her blood red-stained lips for electric pink, which is equally as bold and just as beautiful. Stefani can pull anything off, makeup wise. Her lips are so inviting and pouty in these images.
We love seeing her ditch tall platforms in favor of Doc Martens in the pose with her boys in the band, too. We’re also coveting that gold arm cuff she’s wearing in the shot where her hands are her guns.
She also dishes on fame (“Being Number One or playing in a garage–they’re both super fun”) and the how the VMAs have changed over over the years — “It used to have so much weight. People even paid attention to the categories! Now if you win one–I don’t even think anyone takes your picture. It’s like, whatever.”
In case you missed Stefani’s other fall covers, check out her abs-baring Marie Claire cover and her pink couture Harper’s Bazaar cover. You might say that her Nylon cover mixes elements of both of those previous, high fashion covers!
