Yesterday felt like a blast from the past, as former ‘N Sync member Justin Timberlake and Destiny’s Child announced they were going to be releasing new music. This will mark Timberlake’s first new record since 2006, and the first Destiny’s Child single since the trio dropped ‘Destiny Fulfilled’ in 2004. So, which of these throwback pop acts has you the most excited for new music?

For a while now, fans have been worried that Mr. Timberlake was out of the music game for good. He’s been so focused on acting lately, with roles in films like ‘The Social Network’ and ‘Friends With Benefits,’ and other projects (his deal with MySpace), that many believed the ‘SexyBack’ singer would be retiring from singing altogether. But God must be watching out for all of the JT fans, since the crooner released an official statement (via YouTube) confirming there will be a whole new batch of Timberlake tunes in 2013. Hell yes!

Meanwhile, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams are reuniting to release a Destiny’s Child greatest hits album, and with that LP will come ‘Nuclear,’ a brand-new single! Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle have had pretty active solo careers since DC’s disbandment, but we are beyond excited to see the fierce-some trio harmonizing together again. Apparently, Beyonce is also bringing Kelly and Michelle along for her Superbowl halftime performance on Feb. 3, and you definitely do not want to miss that.

Destiny’s Child, ‘Nuclear’ – Song Review

Are you ready to go ‘Nuclear?’ Too bad if you’re not, because it’s here. The brand new Destiny’s Child track will appear on their just-announced ‘Love Songs‘ album, a collection of their most romantic tracks from 1997 through 2004, which drops on Jan. 29. It’s the first taste of music from the trio, comprised of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, since they split in 2005.

The Pharrell Williams-produced song is butter smooth R&B, devoid of any room-filling vocal acrobatics by Bey, unquestionably the most famous member of the group then and now. But it’s not Beyonce and the Supremes here — each Destiny lady has equal time to let her silky, rich and celestial vocals shine.

It’s a sweet and sexy track with some harmonizing. Overall, it is rooted in the ’90s R&B sound, with a shimmering backbeat. There’s some bursts of breath that aren’t so much vocals as they are somewhat erotic noises emitted by the girls, and they are sultry and humanizing.

On first listen, ‘Nuclear’ was a little underwhelming. By the second listen, it grows on you, when you realize they sing about “how we keep our s— together.” You’re like, “Damn, Desinty’s got attitude.” By the third spin, you’ll find yourself shuffling and grooving. It’s not an instant “I loved it on first listen” track, but by the time you’ve digested it more than once, you’ll love it.

It’s a romantic, snuggle-by-the-fire song, anti-’Bootylicious’ dance jam — and that’s fine with us. It’s refined, polished and heavenly.

With all this Destiny’s Child activity — the ‘Love Songs’ album, the Super Bowl reunion, the release of ‘Nuclear’ and even Justin Bieber referencing them in ‘As Long as You Love Me’ — we’re thinking something more permanent could be in the works. You never know. Ladies?

Destiny’s Child Is Totally Releasing New Music

And this is when we lose our breath.

Singer Beyonce Knowles confirmed on her website Thursday that Destiny’s Child will release their first brand-new song since the uber-popular group parted ways in 2006.

The song, called “Nuclear,” will be performed live during the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 3 for their first time reuniting on stage since the split, according to Us Weekly, and will be featured on a 14-track compilation called “Love Songs,” out Jan. 29.

Naturally, the CD will feature the group’s best love tracks — everything from “Cater 2 U” to their cover of “Emotion.”

Fans can pre-order the CD now on Amazon.

The news caps off a pretty epic week for group member Beyonce Knowles, who this week appeared on GQ’s February 2013 cover wearing nothing but a skimpy football t-shirt and barely-there underwear.

Knowles will also perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show next month. Which means there totally needs to be a Destiny’s Child reunion during the show.

Beyonce Confirms First Original Destiny’s Child Music in Eight Years

First Justin Timberlake, now Destiny’s Child. The ’90s are making its way back into the music industry full force. The same day JT announced that he’s ‘ready’ to return to the field, Beyonce took to her Facebook page to proclaim that she, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams are reuniting. She writes, “I am so proud to announce the first original Destiny’s Child music in eight years!” Along with that message came the official album cover for the girl group’s upcoming Love Songs compilation.

According to Billboard, the CD will consist of 14 tracks and is “composed of romantic-themed songs the trio recorded between 1997-2004 except for” “Nuclear,” which is confirmed to be newly-recorded.

2013 is shaping to be the year for Beyonce. Along with her melodies with DC, she’s also on the road to her fifth album, set to release this spring, performing at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show, and she’s tapped to sing for Barack Obama and co. at his second Presidential Inauguration. Did we miss anything? Oh yeah, and she’s also the latest cover girl for GQ‘s “The 100 Sexiest Women of The 21st Century” issue. Keep in mind, a majority of this is all happening/has happened within a month. (Makes you rethink what you’re doing with your life, doesn’t it?)
