The Wanted Cover Ne-Yo’s ‘Let Me Love You’

The Wanted prove time and again that they’ve got the vocal chops to sing just about anything, and they drove that point home once more with their cover of Ne-Yo‘s smash hit ‘Let Me Love You.’

While the original track builds as a club banger with a positive message, the Wanted’s version keeps the momentum of the intro to produce an uplifting piano ballad. Nathan Sykes sings the opening bars, with Jay McGuiness following, then Max George and Tom Parker taking over for the first chorus.

Their rendition picks up tempo after the first chorus, but the acoustic setting and unedited harmonies makes the song their own, and it really showcases how well each of their distinct voices work with one another. Another awesome aspect of the video? McGuiness’ too-cute, interpretative dance moves and goofy faces.

Watch Miley Cyrus Cover ‘Jolene’ by Dolly Parton in ‘Backyard Sessions’ Video

Miley Cyrus has a great godmother — none other than country legend Dolly Parton. The ‘Party In the U.S.A.’ singer paid tribute to Parton in one of her new ‘Backyard Sessions,’ covering her classic ‘Jolene.’

Cyrus clearly recorded this before chopping off all of her hair, as she’s rocking her once-signature top knot in the clip. She’s also missing her engagement ring, so it’s probably from a while back. The country sound is a good one for Cyrus, but it’s nothing like what her upcoming album will be like: Pharrell and rap-fueled. Enjoy her twang while it lasts!

Austin Mahone Sings ‘Jingle Bells’ With His Mom and a Dog

You think you’re in the Christmas spirit? Pshaw. Until you’ve strapped on a Santa hat and sung ‘Jingle Bells’ to a nation of swooning tweens while a dog wearing fake reindeer antlers looks on, you haven’t demonstrated a true understanding of the reason for the season.

Just kidding, of course — but as it turns out, pop heartthrob Austin Mahone did exactly that for MTV‘s ’12 Holidaze’ video series, stopping by the network’s fake snow-bedecked sound stage to deliver a suitably dreamy and blessedly brief version of one of the many, many holiday carols you’ve heard more times than you can count. He even went the extra mile by wearing a red holiday sweater because, as he told MTV, they’re “cool” and “kinda traditional and romantic at the same time.”

Mahone went on to divulge the mystery of his song selection process, revealing that he chose to sing ‘Jingle Bells’ because “I grew up singing that song with my family and my friends, and it’s just a fun song to sing, y’know? It’s upbeat.” The dog seems to disagree with the “fun” part, pawing off its antlers and peering dejectedly off-camera, but what do dogs know? Not as much as Austin’s millions of Mahomies.

Mahone’s performance left him in a thoughtful mood, prompting him to share his favorite holiday memory with MTV. “My favorite memory was when it snowed in Texas. It never snows ever, then one year it did, and it was awesome,” he remembered fondly. “I think it was 2007. It was crazy. we didn’t really know what to do, but I was out there making snow angels and throwing snowballs at my granddad.” His granddad is probably safe from being pelted with snowballs this year; instead, Mahone says he’ll celebrate the holidays by “going down to San Antonio where I’m from and spending Christmas with my family and my friends. We’ll be setting up the Christmas tree, hanging ornaments, making cookies, and spending time together.” Word, Austin.

Watch Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran + Taylor Swift’s Horrid Karaoke Performance

For three famous singers who have traveled the world with their careers, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles and Taylor Swift put on a pretty bad karaoke show.

Their rendition of Elton John and Kiki Dee’s classic ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart,’ is hor-ren-dous. So bad we had to break up the word horrendous into three parts for emphasis. The bright spot in Sheeran and Styles’ performance are the other One Direction boys on stage taking to heart the saying, “Dance like nobody’s watching.” As for Taylor Swift, if you don’t think she’s country enough, take a look at her barnyard hoedown moves and get back to us.

One Direction to Cover Blondie for Charity

One Direction are ready to embrace new wave when they record a cover version of Blondie‘s ‘One Way or Another,’ which charted years before any of the guys in 1D were born. The remake will support Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day, which takes place in the U.K. on March 15 and aims to raise money for disadvantaged youth.

1D’s Harry Styles said in a statement, “We have grown up with Comic Relief and taken part in lots of Red Nose Days at school, so we were thrilled to be asked to do this year’s Red Nose Day single. It’s such an honor for us. We can’t wait to perform our version of this iconic pop song and raise as much money as possible for this incredibly important cause that is really close to our hearts.”

Bandmate Zayn Malik added, “At school Red Nose Day was a big deal! Me and my friends used to really look forward to it. I remember one year we all came in in our pajamas, which was pretty cool!”

One Direction’s cover will be the official single for the 2013 event. The guys are taking over that mantle from the Wanted, who performed the official Red Nose Day 2011 song, ‘Gold Forever.’

‘One Way or Another’ hit No. 24 in 1979 for Blondie, the new wave superstars led by Debbie Harry who were inducted into the rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Will One Direction keep the snarling attitude and loud guitars of the original, or will they resculpt the tune into a harmony-driven pop song? Find out when the single drops on iTunes in February.

Watch Blondie Perform ‘One Way Or Another’

Mariah Carey, Jimmy Fallon, the Roots + Kids Perform ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’

If you love amazing sing-alongs, Mariah Carey and Jimmy Fallon just may have organized one that takes the cake. Joined by the Roots and the cutest kids you’ve ever seen, the ensemble performed a rendition of Carey’s holiday classic, ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You.’

The festive jam session took place backstage before last night’s episode of ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,’ showing Fallon in a candy-cane striped sweater and Carey in a red floor-length dress. The diva took the opportunity to insert a few ad libs, but stayed true to the celebrated track.

The Roots also showed up in shades of red, playing various real and toy instruments. The addition of four smiling kids, who popped in and out of the frame like little Muppets, really made the song special, though, not to mention oh-so-adorable.

‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ was released in 1994 as the lead single from Carey’s fourth studio album, ‘Merry Christmas.’ The pop star re-recorded the song in 2010 for her second holiday album, ‘Merry Christmas II You,’ and called the song ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You (Extra Festive).’ The uptempo tune is widely regarded as one of the best modern Christmas songs.

Hear Pink Cover Alicia Keys’ ‘Girl on Fire’

Pop stars covering each other’s songs is a rather common convention in this era. They do it all the time. The latest killer cover is delivered by Pink, who turned in a sensational, roof-raising and scorching cover of Alicia Keys‘ latest hit ‘Girl on Fire.’

Pink did such a good job with it that if you told us this was Keys herself singing, we’d probably (sort of) believe it.

Pink and Keys both have bluesy, room-filling voices, so if anyone is vocally adept enough to tackle this hard-to-sing track with the required skill, it’s Pink. She covered the song for BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge, and we’re sure she made Keys proud with her largely loyal rendition.

Since Pink is a bit edgier than Keys — and that’s no disrespect to Keys, at all — she was able to turn up the heat and the volume, and give it a bit of a rock ‘n’ roll edge.

In lesser hands, this would have been a hot mess, but Pink’s got the vocal range and chops and made it work.

She was backed by musicians and singers, so the cover has a full, harmonized sound. It was so well-produced, that it sounded like a moment from a Pink concert caught on tape.

Listen to it once and we promise that you’ll put it on repeat at least five or six times. It’s that good.

DMX Sings the Holiday Classic ‘Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’

Christmas time is here! And what better way to spread holiday cheer than a Yuletide rap from DMX. Come on!

Back when DMX first visited the Power 105 radio station he was introduced to the magic of Google. In return, the former Ruff Ryder artist shocks them (and us!) by knowing the words to the Christmas jingle, ‘Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer.’ What!

Not only did DMX named all the reindeers — Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner) and Blitzen (for those keeping score) — he also remixed the classic song with his head-nodding lunch-table knocking beat.

DMX even added a few grunts and “Come on!” into the mix to give it that gritty street feel that he is so famous for. The video is the joyous thing we have seen during the holiday season. And may we suggest that DMX start working on a Christmas album in the near future. We would love to hear his take on some holiday classics.

Hopefully, someone will call Swizz Beatz and get this song on audio. This Dark Man X rendition will go down in Christmas history. Forever.

Merry Christmas!

Give a man a fish, says the old Bible verse, and you feed him for a day. But what they didn’t know back then is that if you give a man a pile of Legos and a camera, you can entertain thousands of people for weeks at a time.

This is what we’ve discovered thanks to YouTube user Pedro Henrique, who has used his Lego collection and filmmaking equipment (not to mention what we’re guessing amounts to thousands of hours of free time) to create Lego versions of popular videos by Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, and many others.

Spoofing or copying music videos is nothing new, of course, but it’s rare to see homemade homages created with this much skill and attention to detail — especially by someone who stands a better chance of receiving a cease-and-desist notice than any real financial reward.

Whatever his motivations, Henrique has amassed quite the collection of videos, with 22 and counting at the time of this writing (his most recent effort, a Lego-ized take on Carey and Ne-Yo‘s ‘Angels Cry,’ was uploaded two weeks ago). Check out a few samples of his work below, and be sure to visit his YouTube channel so you can spend the rest of your day watching all 22. That’s what we’ll be doing, anyway…

Sia + the Jonas Brothers Each Cover ‘Diamonds’ by Rihanna

The woman behind ‘Diamonds’ is coming to the forefront! Though Rihanna brought it to No. 1, Sia penned the hypnotic tune for the Bajan beauty, and now she’s singing it herself. And she’s not the only one!

Clad in a black gown and accompanied only by a piano, Sia took the stage and sang the hit she wrote with Benny Blanco. Stoic and still, Sia belted out the tune with feeling, but without movement, at the Norweigan-American Achievement Award ceremony on Nov. 28.

Who else besides the eccentric Aussie powerhouse covered the tune? The Jonas Brothers covered ‘Diamonds’ during a Nov. 27 show at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. Their acoustic rendition was more guitar-driven than piano, but still melancholy and lighter-worthy.

Noticeably absent from the JoBros performance? Joe’s Movember mustache. Not going to lie — we don’t think anyone is going to miss that thing.

Whose rendition of Rihanna’s hit do you like best? Tell us in the comments!
