Reese Witherspoon is proud of her Southern roots.
Earlier this week, the Oscar winner dropped by E!’s Chelsea Lately to chat with her friend Chelsea Handler about the latest addition to her family — four-month-old Tennessee Toth. After a super-secretive pregnancy, Witherspoon gave birth to her and husband Jim Toth’s baby boy in September.
Handler put her This Means War co-star on the spot when she asked Witherspoon to dish the details on baby Tennessee. When the actress stayed mum on the pregnancy details, she went on to say Witherspoon “wouldn’t tell me if she was having a boy or a girl.”
“Then you said, ‘I’m pretty sure someone’s reading our texts,’ and I said, ‘Please don’t text me again, because I don’t want to be blamed,” the late night host added. “Then, you had the baby and you named it Tennessee and I still couldn’t figure out if it was a boy or a girl.”
“Or just a redneck,” Witherspoon joked.
Witherspoon then added that little Tennessee is “super cute” and her 13-year-old daughter Ava is “so awesome” at taking care of her baby brother. The actress also has a 9-year-old son, Deacon, from her marriage to Ryan Phillippe.
Most recently, the former couple — along with Witherspoon’s current husband — put on a united front as they cheered on Deacon at his big soccer game in Brentwood, Calif., earlier this month.
Witherspoon and Phillippe, who met on the set of 1999′s Cruel Intentions, were married from 1999 until 2007. Their divorce was finalized in June 2008 and they have been sharing joint custody of their children Ava and Deacon ever since.
