Last week, the Internet was abuzz over Osbourne blasting Gaga’s fan base, with the Fashion Police host saying the pop star’s followers are “the worst” for how they criticized her weight struggles. “They’ve said I should kill myself, that they hope I get raped,” Osbourne told UK’s Fabulous magazine, adding that Gaga has “a responsibility to stop that.”
Now Mother Monster is fighting back in an open letter to Osbourne that she posted on her website LittleMonsters.com. “I have empathy for you Kelly, but I feel it culturally important to note that you have chosen a less compassionate path,” Gaga writes on behalf of herself and her mother, Cynthia, who co-chair their Born This Way Foundation. “Your work on E! with the Fashion Police is rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another.”
Though she applauds Osbourne’s body transformation over the years — decrying the bullying Osbourne has faced for it — Gaga berates the star for “pointing in the camera, laughing, and making jokes about artists and celebrities as if we are zoo animals.”
But instead of simply scolding Osbourne, Gaga encourages her to use the spotlight to take a stand. “I urge you to take responsibility and accountability for the example that you are setting for young people. They look up to you because you are famous,” she writes. “Why not help others? Why not defend others who are bullied for their image and share your story?”
Now Sharon Osbourne, Kelly’s mother, is stepping into the squabble to defend her daughter. “Your open letter is hypocritical and full of contradictions,” she rages on her Facebook page. “You say her work on… Fashion Police is ‘rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people’s beauty against one another.’ Welcome to the real world.”
Then the former America’s Got Talent judge takes aim at Gaga’s ever-controversial fashions. “When I saw you wear a dress made out of raw meat, I was sickened,” she writes. “When I see you wearing fur, and using it as a fashion statement, the fact that defenseless animals have been killed so you can get your picture in the press is abhorrent to me. Shouldn’t you be teaching your ‘little monster’ fans to respect animals and life?”
