Not all breakups are bitter.

Even though the couple announced their separation back in 2010, Courteney Cox will forever been fond of her soon-to-be ex-husband, David Arquette.

“He’s my best friend in the world,” Cox tells Ellen DeGeneres in a sit-down interview, airing Monday. “I love him.”

While their flame may have fizzled, their bond has never been stronger. “I appreciate David more now than I ever did,” Cox continued.

“I mean…it’s hard. I don’t recommend divorce in general, but he is my best friend and we’ve both grown and changed, and I think we both appreciate each other more. I hope he does. I do.”

Two years after announcing their split, the former spouses finally filed for divorce in June 2012, with both parties asking for joint physical and legal custody of their daughter, Coco, 8.

But throughout it all, Cox and Arquette have held fast to their companionship.

“They are probably the best example of a couple who has been able to maintain a healthy relationship post-divorce,” writer and relationship expert Jessica Radloff tells Celebuzz. “It is more common than people think…even in Hollywood.”

Though some exes would be smart “to move on and start anew,” many celebrity couples take a stab at staying friends when announcing their split.

“They say that because for one, it does look good for their image,” Radloff explains. “And two, I think many of them actually do hope to remain friends. Hollywood is a very small town and everybody is connected in some way or another. But the public is smart; they’ll know if a former couple is putting forth a facade or if the respect is genuine.”

In the case of Cox and Arquette, however, their closeness has proven true through-and-through — and no doubt works to their advantage when it comes to co-parenting Coco.

“When kids are involved, obviously it’s healthy for exes to remain friends,” Radloff says. “Same goes for whether a separated or divorced couple works together or sees each other on a regular basis.”

And Cox and Arquette aren’t the only Hollywood stars who have managed to keep things amicable following a split.
